I hope this puts to rest the "Harold Ford couldn't win Tennessee so Obama can't win the presidency"
argument.

Obama has proven something important. That white people WILL vote for a black candidate under the right circumstances.

This doesn't mean that Obama will win the nomination or the presidency. But it does mean that he has a chance.

And that may be all he needs.

17. The Ford family, aka the "Memphis Mafia"...
Harold was actually conservative enough on some of his positions to appeal to alot of Repubs, but Uncle John, Aunt Ophelia, and others blew his chances.... (Uncle John is fixin' to go to prison. He's a state Senator that got busted in in a Federal bribery sting)

I myself don't like DLCers, but a Democratic majority was on my mind when I voted for Harold. Good thing TN wasn't a deciding factor.....

2. But can Obama win Tennessee?
Tennessee is part of the Old South. Iowa was a free state in the North.

IMHO, Obama will face more problems in Tennessee than in Iowa.

However, it is probably more important to consider how Obama will do in swing states like Ohio, Florida and Colorado than in Tennessee.

5. Obama could take Western TN, maybe some middle. Edwards
will do well in Eastern TN. Middle TN is the Nashville area, and a huge republican stronghold, but independants and conservative republicans in middle TN could go toward Obama. Either way, I think TN will turn blue in November 08.

3. Iowa Is Pretty Darned White
If Obama can win there, he can win in any state that Democrats have a chance of winning.

4. Tennessee is another animal, entirely. I know, I've lived here
all my life. It will be interesting to see how the local papers and news spin this, and what the talk is as Feb 5th grows closer. I think Edwards will have a better chance in portions of TN than Obama, but it could be close between the two of them. I think, once again, HRC would come in behind both of them.

8. Harold Ford race showed that Obama COULD win nationally
the race in Tennessee, one of the most conservative with an ugly racist campaign aimed at Ford was very close. i was surprised by that.

Obama may not win Tennessee but he may win Arkansas, West Virginia, Virginia .
