So You Want Me To Sell Obama Eh...

This is not by any means a detailed or complex post. It'll be rather short...mostly because I'm not good at "selling" things. If I were, I'd be a car salesman or something...lol. This is basically why I support him PERSONALLY.

The best thing I can do is to tell you to look at his record as STATE SENATOR as opposed to a FEDERAL one (even though his Federal record isn't BAD). He voted against the Patriot Act the first time amoung other things. He's actually pretty liberal-leaning, but is not running as a liberal...which is the smart thing to do if you want to win. He used to support Single-Payer Healthcare in Illinois...so even though he doesn't anymore, there's room for him to change his mind since he's a pretty consistent guy. Again, people have to remember that he's running as a moderate. I think he would be much more left-leaning in OFFICE than it appears right now.

People on this site like to complain about Ned Lamont and Joe Lieberman supposedly being his "mentor" (proof he's REALLY DLC in disguise or something). This has to be one of the most overblown things I've seen on DU. First of all, we don't know how far or deep LIEberman's "mentorship" goes...or even how long it lasted. Was LIEberman's role simply to show Obama around and introduce him to people...then he was like "well, you're on your own." LIEberman knows everybody, and he likes to get around and meet new people, so it's not surprising that he would show Obama the ropes when he first came in. Also, as much as we hate to admit it, in 2004, LIEberman was respected in the Senate on BOTH sides (not only by Democrats). A newcomer like Obama is not going to ignore and shrug off someone who was on the ticket for President and almost won. I doubt he has much respect from Dems now since he's basically stabbing the party in the back. He's become a staunch warhawk lately (he also endorsed f*cking McCain).

Obama can and WILL get crossover votes. This was shown loud and clear in Iowa. John Edwards and mostly Hillary Clinton can't and WON'T do that. Which is why it surprises me when people say Obama would be easy to beat in the General Election. That is a bold-faced lie! Obama has the MONEY, the INFRASTRUCTURE, and the crossover APPEAL to be very formidable in the GE. We want a winner in 2008! Someone who will turn red states purple and possible blue. Someone who can potentially win in a landslide and not by the skin of his teeth with 2 or 3 points. There are plenty of reasons to be concerned and worried about a Clinton nomination. We can't risk that in in 2008.
