Wasn't Edwards Supposed to Win Iowa?
Why doesn't Edwards just drop out so we can have an honest discussion on single payer health care and the war in Iraq?

1. Who is going to have that discussion?
I don't see Clinton, Obama, and Richardson debating single payer health care?

2. He sure did beat The Clintons/DLC and corporate media expectations though.
I like Obama and Edwards and I'll be happy with either of them winning...

But if anyone needs to drop out, I'd say it's the people who came in last, not the winners at the top.

5. Didn't Edwards travel to every county in the state?
Edwards had to win this one to be viable.

Now that Edwards is not viable, he should drop.

Kucinich is the honest candidate for single payer health care and against the war.

Let the honest discussion begin!

14. All I know is he beat the "inevitable" Mega-media Stars, the Clintons. That's big.
If he can beat that machine, I think he still has a fighting chance.

Either way, so long as it's not Clinton, I'm cool. Obama is fine by me.

I like many of Kusinich's positions too (and dislike at least one)- but I cant see anything he does affecting Eddie's decision to stay or go.

27. I like Kucinich, really I do. But you are saying Edwards should drop...
... because he is "not viable"?

Umm, how is Kucinich a more viable candidate than Edwards?

32. So, Edwards should drop out for not being viable, but Kuchinich should stay in
Kuchinich, who was not viable in 2004 or in 2008?

7. Absolutely absurd
At best anyone with 5% or less should consider dropping out. Though maybe they should wait until the NH primary.

And they both beat Hillary.

33. W/O the independent voters, Obama beat Edwards and so did Hillary
Obama got 32% of the Democratic vote and Edwards got 23%. Hillary also beat Edwards with 31%.

35. My mistake if those numbers are accurate -- I have never heard of "ENTRANCE" polls before
Especially in a system like the Iowa Caucus, where you can change your affiliation several times if you want to before the caucus is over.

31. He's viable because he can win in a general election.
He's viable because weeks ago, he was a distant single-digit third place in most polls, and he just got 30% in the first contest, and beat Hilary.

12. Edwards has been campaigning in Iowa for years-never left after the '04 election.
If he can't win there, he can't win anywhere. I wish Hillary would drop out, but she has enough money to stay in it to the end.

6. He placed above someone who's raised over 100 million dollars.
I don't think it's time for him to drop out. Why doesn't Kucinich drop out? He got 0.00% of state delegates. Even Dodd did better and he dropped out.

Why should Edwards continue so as to confuse the single payer health care debate?

Edwards is no longer viable.

13. Well
According to all the talk, it was said that a "large" turnout, and it was huge, would hurt Edwards more than Obama or Clinton. Now coming in second when the odds with a large turnout put him third at best, sounds pretty good to me!

16. There is now no reason to support Edwards
The argument for Edwards was that he was the second best progressive, but that he was electable.

Now that the electable argument is settled, Edwards is the second best progressive.

30. So him placing 2nd settles the "electable" issue? POP QUIZ: Where did the last two Dem presidents...
... place in the Iowa caucuses?

Bill Clinton (1992): 4th
Jimmy Carter (1976): 2nd
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_caucus#Democrats

I guess they were "unelectable".

19. Three is a Good Number--To Expect Only One Is Absurd So Early
The three are nearly equal--close enough to be given equal consideration.

Obama got first-timers, but Edwards got the returnees. If you're looking for strength, durability, and growth, Edwards has it.

It's Hillary I feel sorry for. Her campaign is imploding, collapsing like a hot air balloon when the gas jets cut out.

34. Edwards ego...
will not allow him to drop out. There is NO chance now that he will receive the nomination now, the best he could hope for is the VP slot again.. hopefully that won't happen because as the VP nominee last time, he generated little excitement and could not even carry his home state.

37. If Huckabee wins the GOP nom
JRE's chances at the VP spot goes from slim to none.

The South is going to prove extraordinary tough to win. The Northeast will probably be a lock for the Dems. Obama comes from the Mid-West. Obama best choice for a running mate probably should come from the Rocky Mountain West, the PacNorWest, Cali, or the Southwest.

38. you're taking a lot of crap on this thread
but I get your point. Edwards' positions on health care and Iraq, are disingenuous at best. He won't be dropping out though, not yet. But, he will lose in NH, and he will lose in SC and he will lose in Nevada, and at that point, one might think he's realize that he's not going anywhere. Or some miracle could happen, and he could sweep to victory across the board. But even if he's out, the media isn't going to touch a candidate who touts single payer.
