MIchael Moore says Obama takes payola from health care industry
Michael Moore: " tell me why you are now the second largest recipient of health industry payola after Hillary. You now take more money from the people committed to stopping universal health care than any of the Republican candidates."

9. they all take payola from the health care industry, why are we surprised?
our dreams of a single payer national health care system is a pipedream. as long as the front runners (and potential winner) takes money from them, we will never have it.

call me crazy, but I would find it interesting if the health industry funded someone that was against their own best interests.

smoke and mirrors folks.

13. Kinda Nonsensical
The information he is using is from here

http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/select.asp?Ind=H01

The problem is that lots of people qualify as "health professionals"

For example, if a NURSE gives money to Obama, that is a "Health Professional" donation, but it is unlikely that nurse is against Universal Health Care.

If you REALLY want to get a look at where the money is, you should check out INSURANCE donations

http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/select.asp?Ind=F09 where you see several people ahead of Obama.

14. why won't the MSM expose Michelle Obama and her "STILL money connection to Wal-Mart and
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 07:02 PM by indimuse
According to Treehouse's financial filings, Wal-Mart accounted for 16.1 per cent of its sales last year, up from 11.7 per cent in 2005 (a 37 per cent increase), comfortably making it the company's biggest customer. Treehouse's annual operating profits rose from $28 million two years ago to $84 million (up 200 per cent) in 2006.

Mrs Obama, 43, was re-elected to the board last month for a further three years, a period that would overlap with her husband's time in the White House if he becomes America's first black president.

Mrs Obama is Treehouse's senior non-executive director and sits on the company's audit and nominating and corporate governance committees. Her Treehouse connection is not the only awkward ethical question that has confronted Sen Obama as his past is dug over.

Earlier this year, in response to a newspaper investigation, he said he was unaware that his broker had bought $50,000 worth of stock in two speculative companies whose leading investors included some of his biggest political donors.

According to the couple's tax returns, Mrs Obama earned $51,200 (£25,700) for her work as a non-executive director on Treehouse's board last year, on top of the $271,618 salary she was paid as a vice-president of the University of Chicago Hospitals.

advertisementShe also received 7,500 Treehouse stock options, worth a further $72,375, as she did the previous year, when she banked a $45,000 salary from the company.

The apparent contradiction between Sen Obama's political calculation to join the Wal-Mart-bashing lobby, and his wife's profitable role with a company that makes money from Wal-Mart, is being closely scrutinised by "opposition" research teams working for rival White House candidates, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

32. Still having trouble figuring out the relevance here.....

Who gives a shit whether Michelle Obama has a non-executive board seat on a processed food company?

I realize this may shock the hell out of socially backward retards everywhere, but men's wives are allowed to have their own careers these days. Imagine that.

Or is your point that Obama is bought & sold over a few ten G's for an advisory board seat?

33. She sits on the board of a food company that supplies Wal-Mart..and others...
The Chicago Tribune profile of "Barack's Rock" last Sunday noted that her career had caused her husband discomfort: "Critics have pointed out that her income has risen along with her husband's political ascent. She sits on the board of a food company that supplies Wal-Mart, which Obama has denounced for its labor practices."

34. So what?

Is your point that women are not allowed to work, or married women are not allowed to work, or what?

Or is your point that a married woman cannot have a board seat on a company that makes processed food?

Wal-Mart is that largest retailer in the US. I'm not fond of them, and I don't shop there. But what is your point? That a processed food company shouldn't sell to Wal-Mart? That's just f-ing stupid.

Treehouse is an American company that employs Americans making American products. Why shouldn't their products be sold at Wal-Mart?

Or is your point that someone who was engaged for a non-executive board seat on a company selling retail products should say, "I think it would be a good idea to tank 16% of our sales and lay off American workers because Wal-Mart has crummy labor practices."

Explain this to me.

20. I already see one
as do some others.

What we've got here is a personality cult, which historically insulated a candidate (or leader) from critical thought about their actial policies and behaviors.

25. Serving on a corporate board, and running a business, are two different things...
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 09:58 PM by jberryhill
It is not at all unusual for lawyers to serve on any number of corporate boards.

This Treehouse thing is arrant nonsense.

Yes, Treehouse is a producer of pickles and other processed foods. OF COURSE the country's largest retailer is one of Treehouse's largest customers.

It turns out that Wal-Mart is a substantial customer of ANY company that makes household products. Big flipping whoop.

To make it seem like one lawyer holding one board seat in a processed food company is somehow "in cahoots" with Wal-Mart, is a pitch to extremely simple-minded people.

And yes, clients often ask their attorneys to serve on corporate boards and advisory boards as a sort of "sideways" way to get flat-fee legal advice.
