It is no different than when the repigs talked about Terri Schiavo.

They are both used an unfortunate situation to gain political points.

Flame away - but that is how I feel.

3. It is certainly different. The Republicans were attempting to intervene in a private decision.

9. Not all political gain is equal. There's a stark difference between
pimping medical tragedy for political gain and creating medical tragedy for political gain.

I don't work in the transplant field, nor do I work in the medical
field, but I have seven sister/husband who do, and I'm a third generation family member who has seen first hand those waiting for health care and dying. Believe me you don't have to be in the field to be impacted enough by the abuse of our medical crises to weigh in on it. I applaud John Edwards for having the courage to talk about these very painful, but very real issues that impact a huge majority of people.

5. He uses his son's death, his wife's cancer, and this girl's death with calculated coldness.
It's quite disconcerting.

23. He speaks the truth about life, the reality, ugly and pretty. Your "caluclated coldness" just may be
Edwards' "passion for the American people over the corporate interests that infiltrate every level of government and destroy the dreams of average Americans every day." Just saying...

24. I think it is sincere, loving, and effective. Screw the orivate purveyors of misery for profit. They
are worse than drug dealers and should be criminally charged not rewarded with multmillion dollar salaries.

26. This Presidnetial Candidate has brought to the discussion many
experiences that have impacted his life. Unfortunately he has been greatly impacted by the death of his son, and one never forgets those people whom they love. The loss of a child is something that he reaches out to those whom also grieve. How nice to have a voice for those who don't. You might want to reconsider your concern. I don't know if you're a parent, aunt, uncle, but life has a way of changing you.

7. It is different.
Terry Schiavo was a vegetable with no chance of recovery. That little girl might have lived a long life if her insurance company weren't so goddamned greedy. The two situations couldn't be more different. I mean, you've just compared Edwards analogy as being no different than analogy's used by people who use box turtle's to argue against gay marriage.

12. It is absolutely different -- not even close to the Schiavo situation.
He brought it up as an example of how the current health care system is so controlled by insurance companies trying to make a profit that without coverage people die. This is real and it's serious. The Schiavo case involved politicians attempting to intervene in somebody else's personal medical decisions in order to pander to extremist right-wing Christians. There is no comparison at all.

13. I don't agree
The repigs got Congress to come back from vacation to vote on Terri Schiavo. They MADE her a political issue, a HUGE political issue, driven by their sick "pro-life" agenda. It was a very different situation.

Maybe it's my own cynicism, but I just don't feel right with that kind of thing.

If that were my child I would ask Edwards to use it to get medical care for others in the same situation.
