Did anyone else notice an alliance forming on stage tonight
between Edwards and Obama?
Running mates perhaps?

28. By "backfire", what she means is.....
With Edwards and Obama in the White House for 16 years, Hillary will never get a chance to be president.

And there, for our atheist friends, is conclusive proof that there IS a God. O8)

11. How will it back fire?
Clinton NEEDS to win NH and right now, she didn't get enough from the debate to halt Obama's momentum. If she loses Tuesday, it's over for her.

I don't see how it will backfire with so little time left between now and the primary.

After tonight's debate, it's obvious to everyone why Edwards beat Clinton in Iowa.

20. Edwards is a light weight!!!
The only reason he had a less than one percent win over her is because the rules allowed him to get a second bite of the apple. If that had been a primary, Edwards would have been a distant third.

I don't think any of the candidates are lightweights. They just have different strengths and weaknesses.

14. Yes, it was apparent to me.
I think they have both recognized that they are stronger when they stand together.

That is a good thing for America.

I don't think they will be running mates though. I can't imagine a day when Edwards is on the ticket as a VP again. It's too bad, he would have made a good one.

18. Edwards might like AG better.
I don't know if the Supreme Court suits his temperament, though.

On the other hand, as an Edwards supporter, I want Obama at Justice. I think that Obama might be a nice SC pick, though.

30. That would be the one
Doggett began his career at the University of Texas in Austin, where he was elected Student Body President in 1967. Later, he graduated from the UT School of Law with honors while serving as an associate editor of the Texas Law Review. At 26, he was elected to the Texas Senate, where during his 11 years of service he became known for his untiring work ethic. He authored 124 state laws, including the creation of the Texas Commission on Human Rights to prohibit discrimination.

In 1988, Doggett was elected as a Justice to the Texas Supreme Court. He wrote opinions supporting the right to a trial by jury, school finance equity and authored an important rule bolstering the public’s access to information. He was recognized as an “Outstanding Judge in Texas” by the Mexican-American Bar of Texas, awarded the James Madison Award from the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, and received the First Amendment Award from the National Society of Professional Journalists.

39. I wasn't aware of his earlier career.
I'd appoint him if he were younger. I want someone in there who'll hound Scalito until they leave the bench.

Lloyd would do it for a few years very well, but he's about 10-15 years too old.

Is he your congresscritter?

41. He's not too old to do a great job for another 10-15 years.
However, Thomas, Alito and Scalia are all in their 50s, and will be on the court until they die, most likely.

I'd like someone who is at least as young as they are so that they will have hard-nosed opposition for the rest of their careers.

We can't count on always having a Dem in the White House to appoint the good guys and gals.

BTW, I lived in TExas for a year working for a liberal federal judge in Tyler. Lloyd Doggett was very much respected by the few libs in the place. Everyone wanted him for their congresscritter.

37. My guess is that they aren't working together.
I think it was Edwards' idea to paint himself and Obama as the agents of change, and Clinton as the status quo candidate. Since it seems that the voters are looking for change, this should knock Clinton out of the game if the voters begin to look at the campaign that way. Then the primary would be between Obama and Edwards, and how each of them has a different idea as to how to bring about the change we need.

Obama picked up on this during the debate and went with it, knowing that it can only help him. I don't think it was anything that they decided on beforehand. At least this is my guess.

It'll be interesting to see what happens the next time they debate.

34. It's going to take more
To beat the Clinton machine, they'll have to get the supporters of Kucinich, Biden, Richards, and anybody's else's support.

Obama/Edwards would make a good ticket, or the other way around. Usually the president sits and looks presidential and the veep goes around cussing out everyone who opposes the president. Edwards would be good at that...but so would Obama.

Edwards has to work a bit on looking and sounding presidential. And I hope he doesn't tell the story about his family and the mill and the girl that just died.

Go Edwards!

35. I got a call from a non-political friend about half way through
tonight's debate. He wanted to know what kind of arrangements they had made - was it for JE to be VP? Told him I didn't think so and that I thought JE was just trying to make friends with the BMOC.

It was uncomfortable to watch.
