Obama has already spent his $100 million - he's almost broke and needing to raise money fast
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 05:26 AM by Herman Munster
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/01/06/after_spending_in_nh_iowa_money_may_be_tight/?page=1

Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the big winner in Iowa, raised about $23 million in the past three months of 2007 but spent heavily to beat third-place finisher Senator Hillary Clinton of New York in the leadoff state of Iowa and had a modest balance on hand heading into New Hampshire, a campaign official told the Globe. However, the campaign raised about $750,000 via the Internet Thursday night and Friday morning, according to the official, who was not authorized to speak for the campaign and requested anonymity. That would raise Obama's 2007 fund-raising total to about $103 million.

Murphy, who was McCain's strategist in his unsuccessful 2000 run, said winning solves financial problems, and predicted money will not be a problem for Obama for long. "He'll be unbroke in about 72 hours," Murphy said. "I know he has restrictions on who he takes money from, but he's going to be a lot more popular in certain Washington-area ZIP codes after beating Clinton" in Iowa.

2. So wait Obama's nearly broke from blowing $100 million and his wife is worried about John Edwards?
Look I know the ramifications of opting in to matching funds but to spend $100 million this early on seems like poor management of funds to me.

16. Poor management is losing while having money left over. Good management is
using (up) every penny wisely and winning.

24. Maybe but Edwards just barely lost and the race is far from over.
Blowing your wad in one state seems irresponsible to me. This race is a marathon not a sprint especially when you factor in each candidate's strengths in upcoming states. Edwards has a strong chance in Michigan and Nevada where he has solid union support and he won South Carolina last time. Hillary will likely do well in NY and CA.

I don't think it's a smart move to spend all your money on Iowa and hope to get all new donations to make up the money you're now lacking due to a serious overplay of a single state.

3. Is $750,000 insufficient?
And why bring it up? Murphy's right. It won't be a problem for long.

4. to spend $100 million and we aren't past NH yet
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 05:45 AM by Herman Munster
My god, you know Huckabee won Iowa and probably has spent just a million or two in his campaign. It's just mindboggling how much Obama has spent. Where has the money gone? Kos says it goes to his PR guy. He gets a commission based on each ad aired.

Hillary, O'Bama, Romney, Edwards, Giuliani got this hot cash.

9. what an absurd, ridiculous race.
He is out of money, his campaign is over. And the big media state of California is coming up . What a corrupt system. Mostly from special interest groups. Its not a campaign, its a money race. It used to cost one billion dollars an election cycle. Now O'Bama has already spent 1/10 that amount in a puny state like Iowa. Can't we look at ourselves and see how absurd we are. All that money spent and we still have a democracy that allocates speech to only those who can afford it by buying the airwaves with the permission of our corporate aristocracy.

13. He still hasn't spent $100 million.
And anyways what's been spent is spread out on infrastructure and staffers.

Hillary is probably in a smiliar position.

15. WHEN and IF Obama wins another state where he wasn't handed
the win with all those bussed in students, then you could see he is a serious contender. I suppose the dirty trickester found out how to get the student rounded up, bussed in to vote and then sent back to Illinois and the other states. Just shows what kind of campaign he is running.

Til then he is just the piece of fluff in the field. I hope he spends and spends and spends and spends....he's not going to get the nomination. He doesn't have enough juice to take the big states that have the delegates even tho the republican owned press is trying to get him the candidacy...they want him, they know he is the easier one to beat. Their masters have told them to play him up and bash Hillary and that's what they are doing.

19. Blah, Blah. Blah
Bitwit, you never answered my question. Why are Hilalry staffers from New York, Maryland, and DC registering to vote in NH? Did they really care about a school board election, or did they just want to defeat an Obama supporter running for that seat?

when your candidate doesn't win.

1. They bussed in people
2. They kept our voters from the polls
3. They stole it.

Yawn

The Repukes want Hilary. And have been geared up ready to run against her for over 10 yrs. Shes going to be very easy for them to tear down

17. That's exactly why he needed to win Iowa.
There is a HUGE effect of winning Iowa (and NH) on campaign contributions. He needed to be seen to be a winner, and the money will flow.

Hillary supporters don't seem to be grasping reality very firmly these days.

28. The Article actually doesn't back up your OP title......
and only alludes to it, in the same sentence as saying that after his Iowa win, the money is flowing....and in 72 hours after winning a state like Iowa, Money for the winners is never an issue.
