Poll question: Who's going to win the republican nomination?
I'm wondering where you're all at.

4. I don't like any of them,
but I think McCain is the "adult in the room," as the pundits like to say.

15. True enough
but a lot of "regular" Republicans don't like Huckabee's over-the-top evangelicalness (is that a word?). I think all their candidates are deeply flawed. Of course, I have a Democratic bias, but I was very proud of all of our candidates last night. While I'm an Edwards person, I wouldn't be terribly disappointed if even Hillary won out. I was thinking that if the four of them could be "executive by committee," we'd really get some things done.

6. McCain won NH in 2000, I think he may win it in 2008, but I don't think it'll be enough for the nom
McCain's win-NH-but-suck-everywhere-else strategy didn't work in 2000, it won't work in 2008.
IMO, ROmney has the $$$ and enough support to emerge as the anti-Huckster. I think the Huckster will pull it off though.

7. It seems conspicuous to me that the Pub establishment is
supporting Romney. They HATE Huck and McCain has pissed them off way too many times when he opposed them in the Senate. Knowing that most of the Pubs are sheeple, I think the establishment will win in the end.

8. Whoever appeases the nutbar evangelicals will win it
right now, they are the loudest and most upset with their choices. Whoever stands for all of their "principles"(without question) will get their golden crown, and the probably the biggest block of the people who might stay home this year otherwise.

16. I picked McCain to be the default winner.
The whole field is so pathetic so the backroom power brokers have to go with the least of the evils for their own interests. Personally, McCain has so many negatives he is virtually unelectable to too many Indies. But, hey, what do I know.

17. If Obama gets the nom
it'll be Huckster

if Clinton gets the nom, it'll be McCain

Edwards won't be getting the nom --his best bet is as a VP at this point.

19. Except that they won't be waiting
to see who the Democratic nominee is before selecting their own.

In truth, exactly like us, they'll be going through their own primaries, caucuses, and winnowing process. Sort of like the way little kids engage in parallel play.

23. I'm not suggesting GOP is waiting
I'm suggesting the same dynamics that put Obama up as a candidate are mirrored by Huckabee on the right.

same with Clinton's dynamics as being the same as McCain's on the right.

If Edwards wants to effect this race at all at this point -- it'll be who he becomes a VP for --Obama or Clinton.

My money is that our Democratic ticket will be Obama/Edwards at this point.

and I'm saying that as someone who will be voting for Hillary in my primary, and I'd dearly love to see Clinton/Clark as our ticket.

The Republican ticket is going to be Huckabee --I have no clue who he can run with --but they aren't in the field of GOP candidates right now.
the GOP really has no possible winning ticket IMHO.

21. McCain, & if our gutless Dems don't get us out of Iraq by November, he'll beat whoever we put up
because this guy is as clever as he is a warmonger. McCain is salivating to take a Democrat on, considering he knows how easy it is to scare half the country into voting for the one candidate who can protect us from those evil terrorists lurking behind our bushes.

Thanks to Pelosi and company, the theme of the next election will be just the same as it was last time, a war theme.

22. The reason I think
Romney will be the nominee is that in the end, somewhat like Democrats in 1960 had to prove they weren't truly anti-Catholic, Republicans in 2008 will have to prove they're not anti-Mormon.

Huckabee's main support is from Evangelical Christians, and they can't nominate one of their own this time.

McCain is totally out of touch. Plus, he has some genuine health issues.

Guiliani's 9/11 mantra isn't enough to win him the nomination. Plus, by staying out of Iowa and New Hampshire he's become the Invisible Man.

Ron Paul is their Dennis Kucinich. With all due respect to Kucinich supporters (and I'm one of them) he simply doesn't stand a chance because he's seen as a nutcase.

It won't go to the convention. It never goes to the convention any more.
