Poll: Edwards leads major GOP candidates in Ohio
Poll: Edwards leads major GOP candidates in Ohio
McCain appears to be the strongest Republican candidate in the Buckeye state, data says.

By William Hershey

Sunday, January 06, 2008

Barack Obama was the winner in Iowa and Hillary Clinton's planning to be the "comeback kid" in New Hampshire, but John Edwards just might be the Democrats' best bet to win Ohio, a crucial state in the general election.

At least that's the conclusion of a new presidential poll released Saturday by Public Policy Polling of Raleigh, N.C., which happens to be Edwards' home state.

Edwards, who finished second to Obama in Iowa, leads all four major Republican candidates — Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee — in the poll in Ohio. Obama and Clinton each leads in just the matchups with Giuliani and Romney.

2. Edwards is the only Dem candidate that beats "all the repigs" nationwide ..
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 03:17 PM by flyarm
its about electibility..folks..go ahead and support who you want..but there is only one dem candidate that beats each and every repig in every state..and that is Edwards!

But remember..when you are supporting the other candidates..they can not win nationwide against repigs..

do we want to concede another 4 years to the repigs??????

think very hard about that..
what state are you willing to concede to repigs????????

and how many?

4. This poll makes an important point
Edwards competes well in the RED states. Now, Iowa is a purplish state and NH is a definite blue state, so it should not surprise anyone that Obama or Hillary does well there. But what about those battleground states and DEEP RED states who don't share that purplish bend or are still mired in racial ignorance? I just don't know about this "New Politics" and really would hate to wake up on November 6 with President elect McCain and VP Huckabee.

18. Maybe California???
ANY Democrat will win California, & likely by a large margin (10% or >)..

There are some states that will absolutely/postively go blue: CA, NY, IL, MA, etc. This is already about 120 electoral votes...

I think any of our candiates will win the Kerry states from 2004....I think Iowa, New Mexico, Nevada, & perhaps Colorado are in play for the Demorats as well..

11. Time and again, the same facts keep coming up
in Edwards' favor. Yet the media have already decided he can't win.

15. Where did we ever get the idea that Obama is a strong GENERAL ELECTION candidate?

Edwards has both the most spine, and his populism attract not only independents, but ever a few Republicans.

How often are we blessed with a situation where having the strongest backbone improves GENERAL election elect ability?

16. Then Edwards supporters need to make sure he beats Clinton in NH.
Otherwise I don't see how he can get the nomination. He is a distant 3rd in all the currently relevant states.

This time of yr. That poll doesn't mean anything. McCain has a long history of votes from the Sentate. That will sink him against any of them
