Superdelegates for 2008
From this site Democratic Convention Watch
<http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/2008/01/superdelegate-list.html>

~snip~
"Here's a list of superdelegates that have officially announced who they plan to nominate. If you know of any others or are a superdelegate please post a comment. Obviously the list will change as candidates drop out of the race. Most info is from here unless otherwise noted.
In the coming weeks we will try to get a handle on where the superdelegate votes will go."

~end snip~

1. Why do SuperDelegates exist?
This whole process is disturbing to me. But perhaps an understanding of superdelegates and what they're supposed to accomplish can help me out.

How does one become a superdelegate, and what are one's duties?

3. It began as a way to keep the "establishment" in as part of the
process, and that defines its present purpose too, imnsho.

From Wiki:
Superdelegates are delegates to a presidential nominating convention in the United States who are not bound by the decisions of party primaries or caucuses. Superdelegates are elected officeholders and party officials.

Superdelegates were first appointed in the 1970s, after control of the nomination process in the Democratic Party effectively moved out of the hands of party officials into the primary and caucus process. The aim was to accord some say in the process to people who had been playing roles in the party before the election year.

11. Thank you for answering.
I don't know what to say. I've never really given mind to caucuses before. But this is good information. I wonder what happened in 1972 and 1976, to make the democratic party fear the primary and caucus process?

2. THis Underscores How The Democratic Party Establishment
Has a stranglehold over the rank and file members of the party.

It is just one more reason why I am independent.

4. Super Delegates are not committed and can change their prefernce at any time
Why even try to pretend that this is the way to the nomination?

My point is exactly that -- that they can switch
and that they can be influenced!

10. Are superdelegates pure, or is it 'i'll scratch your back'?
What would be necessary for someone to change their mind, after all is said and done? do considerations of loyalty/patronage factor in, or has this ever happened before for it to be a question?

Can a person 'win' through superdelegates but not through caucuses?

6. how up to date?
I think that site is referencing CNN's archive from May 2007. I had looked at the site a few weeks ago and know Biden and Dodd had more than they do now. Have some realigned already. Obviously Biden and Dodd haven't endorsed yet.

7. CNN's numbers are based on anonymous polls
My blog is showing the superdelegates that have officially endorsed a candidate.
It's a lot easier as a superdelegate to change your mind if you haven't endorsed a candidate in front of the whole world.

To me CNN's numbers are misleading as they're pretty much estimating the numbers

Check out the blog further at http://demconwatch.blogspot.com I just did a list of who hasn't endorsed anybody yet. We have along wa to go and I really thinf that after Tuesday things will start to change rapidly.
