Why would he question his own VP pick as the best one to take over? Give me a break.

8. Yes, but Kerry wanted to apologize and change course early in 2004
Edwards disagreed, thinking it would make them look weak.

That was one of many disagreements between them. They don't even talk anymore.

17. I Think That's Bull Crap
I think it is speculation that Kerry wanted to apologize in 2004 and Edwards stopped him. Just like it is speculation that Edwards wanted to fight the Swift Boat smear campaign and challenge the results in Ohio but Kerry said no.

I think it is speculation and mutterings of a bitter, disgruntled former campaign worker who never liked Edwards in the first place and now blames him for Kerry's loss. (Read my other post, #9, for my Cracker Jack box psycho-analysis on the Kerry/Edwards relationship)

But when I think about it logically, if Kerry wanted to apologize for Iraq, he had several months of campaigning before Edwards was his running mate to do so. Why didn't Kerry stand up when Dean was declaring the war in Iraq made us no safer? Why didn't Kerry admit his mistake in the spring when he had secured the nomination, but before picking Edwards?

Or why didn't he tell Edwards tough luck, the guy at the top of the ticket makes the call and crafts the message?

Kerry had ample opportunity to apologize/admit it was a mistake. He didn't.

I can't disagree with the statement that Kerry and Edwards aren't exactly cozy now.

9. Don't Be Too Sure
In 2004, Gore endorsed Dean over Lieberman.

I don't think Kerry really likes Edwards - that was a "marriage" of convenience. I know they grew close over the course of the campaign, but I wouldn't assume he still feels that way.

Besides, since Kerry/Edwards didn't win, it is perfectly understandable if Kerry is "blaming" Edwards for not helping him win. Kerry would be only be human if he didn't wonder, "what if I'd followed my 'first' inclination/followed my instinct and chosen **** rather than believe all the pundits who said Edwards would help me win the South" I don't personally think the running mate would have made a differnce one way or the other and I logically Kerry probably knows this, but I would be surprised if he didn't ever wonder.

Just like some couples experience a crisis and rather than coming closer together turn on each other, I think the same is possible for Kerry/Edwards.

I don't think Kerry will endorse. People look weak when they back the losing horse. The more attention the endorsement gets, the worse when the endorsee fails. I don't think Gore or Kerry are going to fall into that.

10. Gore owed nothing to Lieberman
Kerry owes nothing to Edwards.

However IMO the classy thing for the candidate from the last cycle to do is endorse no one in the primary.

12. Isn't there a story about how one of them called the other to
extend their concern about one of the wives and the other didn't return the call?

I don't remember the circumstances - whether it was Elizabeth's illness or a death in Mrs. Kerry's family.

The implication of the story was that one or both of them can't stand the other.

20. If Kerry doesn't like Edwards
It would be because he(Edwards) was totally against contesting the election. No one likes someone who completely disagrees with their major big life decisions. Imagine Edwards position on that day. He was beyond livid, I'm sure. You see Edwards wanted to FIGHT, against the obvious voting "glitches", which is one of many reasons, maybe the biggest, I support Edwards, cause I know he won't put up with the bullshit of another stolen election!!!

22. No. Kerry privately gives a long list or reasons
A second hand tale from Bob Shrum (so I'm not sure its true)

Edwards confides to Kerry that when Edwards' son died, Edwards laid on his dead body. Edwards tells Kerry that he'd never admitted that to a soul before. Kerry says nothing but remembers that Edwards told him the same story a few months before.

I've never seen Kerry deny it.

24. Are you a parent?
I imagine something that devastating would make you do any number of offbeat things. Grief and madness could go hand in hand. Even if it is true, it's not weird enough to make me turned off by the guy, plus, taken out of context, perhaps.NONE OF US WERE THERE.

If he were to endorse someone before then, it wouldn't be Edwards. I think there's some bad blood between them since the 2004 campaign ended.
