As I was reading TeamJordan23's thread
"MSNBC Article: What if its Obama v. Edwards", I saw this response:
Edwards had six yrs to fight in the Senate

and never did much of anything. And he certainly hasn't fought for anyone here in NC. We barely see the guy.
It reminded me of the grumblings here in New Mexico regarding Governor Bill Richardson being more concerned with running for President than actually running the state, and grumblings about other candidates from the citizens of their respective states... which led to thinking about the other side of the coin, how Harry Reid stabbed Barack Obama in the back when it came to the Kyl-Lieberman vote. How does one maintain balance, when one is interviewing for the highest office in the land while holding another?
As an offshoot of that I also thought of Fred Thompson, whose approach to candidacy puzzles me. If you don't want it, why pursue it? He doesn't strike me as humble in his low-keyness, which would be bearable if not outright admirable; he strikes me as disinterested.
All that to say: why does your candidate of choice want the job? what do they wish to accomplish as president that they cannot do in their present position? how satisfied are constituents with the present job done?
