NY Times Misses Big Slip in Steinem Op-Ed
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 10:39 AM by ProSense
Gloria Steinem has an op-ed in today's New York Times, explaining why a female version of Barack Obama would never make it in the eyes of the American public.

But Steinem, a Clinton supporter, makes a big slip that the Times failed to catch.

What worries me is that reporters ignore Mr. Obama's dependence on the old -- for instance, the frequent campaign comparisons to John F. Kennedy, though Senator Edward Kennedy is supporting Senator Clinton -- while not challenging the slander that her progressive policies are part of the Washington status quo.

Excuse me?

While the Kennedy family's endorsements have largely gone to Sen. Clinton, the top prize of the liberal lion has yet to be dispensed.

2. This is true
Ted first backed Kerry, then Dodd (off the radar), and will probably go to Clinton.

4. And you know that how? Don't claim it's true if you don't know.
Kerry and Dodd are his friends; I have no idea how he feels about Clinton.

5. They need to print a BIG correction...

And Gloria Steinem needs to tell the source of her misinformation.

7. Steinem's piece was horrible, sexist crap
No one opposes Hillary because of gender. The principal reasons people are not voting for Hillary are her rush to the center, her vote to permit Bush to invade Iraq and Clinton Fatigue.

Here's just one example of this nonsense: "But what worries me is that he is seen as unifying by his race while she is seen as divisive by her sex." Since when does anyone see her as divisive because of her sex? And, yeah, Obama is so lucky to have that dark complexion. John Edwards was so lucky to grow up poor.

8. They've printed the correction. I found a bigger mistake.
She said Hillary had no masculinity to prove.

9. Clinton has RFK Jr. backing her. Don't know Ted's leanings
Unless he clarifies that he now supports Clinton that is an error. I have great respect for Steinem, and overall I think it was an incisive piece she wrote. I hope this part gets set straight.

10. But RFK Jr's mother
Ethel backs Obama and was one of the first to say he was Kennedyesque!
