How Could the Polls be So Wrong (from TPM)
Damn. The media favored story line just blew up. The Obama romp over Hillary was wrong. It's still early and Obama may eke out a statistical win but he lost. Why? Because the media made the story all about his commanding double-digit lead. Senator Clinton's staff can make the valid claim that they "came back". Media loves the underdog story, normally.

I don't know about you, but I am thoroughly pissed off at the lame, unprofessional conduct of the various networks--MSNBC in particular. They knew that the polls had at least 17% undecided. Rather than simply report that there were a significant number of undecided voters and any projections were not reliable, they danced around like crack addicts celebrating the demise of the Clintons. Hillary is too wimpy. Hillary is too stern. Hillary is too manipulative. Hillary is not manipulative enough.

Special offenders include Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchell, and Howard Fineman. They were so busy dancing on the Clinton grave that they did not have the decency to do some objective analysis. Hell, they tried to deceive the American people. So much for the death of Hillary's campaign.

1. No one expected one of the candidates to cry like a baby.
I forgive them.

8. Good post Nancy...
Crying is what we humans do in times of severe stress. That applies to both women and men. To make a big deal out of it is just more spin from the Repugnant Hate Machine. The surprise here is that our own used the same tactics.

Note that Hillary has been creamed for being 'cold and calculating' and for being soft and a crybaby. A case of the critics having their cake and eating it too.

The results of NH, no matter the eventual winner, is a win for the country. Seeing the pundits explode is worth almost anything. We've waited a long time for a bit of payback.

4. I agree
If women vote for women that cry, then women are idiots.

Draw a venn diagram out of that.

19. Romney didn't exactly cry. But Bush Sr. did. And Bush Jr. And Jane whatshername.
And some male Repub politician in the last couple of years when he was resigning under some scandal.

But Hillary didn't cry. Her eyes got misty and her voice for a second got slightly shaky. I wouldn't call that crying. It seems to have worked for her, though.

5. And so much for the death of Obama's campagin.
If Hillary's margin stays victory stays this thin, she hasn't accomplished THAT much--and that's the REAL story here.

14. Obama needed a win, not to stay close.
Perception becomes reality.......just like Edwards winning over Clinton by fractions of a percentage makes Edwards a 'loser'.

This isn't like 'normal' elections -- there's symbolism to be considered here, as well.

But there's still a whole lot of states to get through, before the end.

16. And what was the reality one Dem primary ago? That HILLARY was the super frontrunner.

Staying this close energizes Obama's base, makes them realize that it's not impossible if they make the effort.

17. How COULD the polls have been so far off. I mean, they weren't even close.
Whose polls were they? What were their methods.

Whatever polls those were shouldn't be relied on in the future, unless they publish what their errors were and state they've been corrected.

I've ignored them since then. In fact, perhaps posts about them should be banned from DU for the duration.
