As an Obama supporter...
...Congratulations to Senator Clinton. It was a well-played and pretty stunning victory, as stunning as Iowa had been for Senator Obama.

But we'll see you New Hampshire and raise you South Carolina and Nevada. :) Edwardsians, you guys ante up too. Suddenly the game is turning interesting.

1. Edwards
Please drop. I love you but you're not going to win and, well, anyone but Clinton.

Something about having the same two families running the country for 24 years does not sit well with me.

3. My greatest hope was for Clinton to do poorly
Maybe go through a couple more states, then drop, leaving an Obama/Edwards battle.

Even lacking that, though, I don't think Edwards ought to drop. Certainly not two states into the primary process. His presence keeps the other two candidates honest. If he does consider dropping and endorsing Obama at some point, it should be after Tsunami Tuesday.

I apologize in advance to all the Kucinich, Gravel, and Richardson supporters for the "other two candidates" bit, but let's be honest here.

5. The problem is
If Edwards waits until after 2/5, Hillary is more than likely our nominee. He's splitting the change vote with Obama. If Edwards truly wants to change things, he needs to weigh how he thinks he can change things more: the very slight, extremely long odds he'll win the presidency, or if he drops out to allow the other agent of change to win the election and become his vice president.

If he really wants change, I'd take a guaranteed vice president spot over a 10000:1 presidential shot.

2. I'll wait. No cock of the walk for me. I learned this lesson from
watching supporters of the other candidates after Iowa.
