The contrast between Hillary's and Obama's supporters on DU's responses to victory is striking.

In the wake of Obama's victory in Iowa, we saw vast amounts of crowing from Obama's supporters, much of it unbelievably rude and ungracious; Hillary's supporters - by no means uniformly, but largely - accepted the result with good grace.

Hillary's supporters have - again, by no means uniformly, but mostly - been reasonably gracious winners, while there has been a good deal of whining and a great many accusations of fraud - totally, utterly, offensively, ludicrously baseless accusations of fraud - from many of Obama's supporters, although many others have been gracious too, to be fair.

I think that Obama would make a better candidate than Hillary, but all along his supporters on DU have - on average, with a very great many exceptions - behaved noticeably worse than those of Hillary (or Edwards); there have been large numbers of both obnoxious jerks and the perfectly civil in all camps, but the ratio of one to the other is discernably different.

And this past week has brought that into even starker relief than before.

Assuming that Edwards doesn't win, which I don't think he can, I'm hoping for an Obama victory, but my desire is severely tempered by the likely DU response.

There have been sore winners and worse losers. Trying to paint all the supporters of one candidate as jerks, like the OP, is particularly obnoxious, imo.

77. Obama wasn't bussing in illegal voters from out of state, as everybody here should know full well.
College students in Iowa and most other states are legally allowed to vote where they go to school and Dems ALWAYS to get them registered and voting. For the first time EVER, the caucus took place so early that the students were still home on break. Many of these Iowa college students parents live in surrounding states (Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin) so Obama gave them an easy option to get back to caucus. These are all legal voters and no matter who wins the nomination, we'll damn well want them to vote and vote Dem in November. This is and always has been a nasty smear that the Clinton team knew full well was totally bogus. If they were in the lead with younger voters, they would have made sure the college kids were assured of a way to get back to campus during break. Of course, most of them just carpooled.

28. Oh, that explains the 'Obama Bullied the Caucus-goers' argument
Because the Clinton folks are classier.

Yes, there were Obama folks after Iowa that bragged about it, and posted snarky 'Clinton should drop out' posts.
And there were Obama folks that graciously congratulated the other candidates for a well run race in Iowa and left it at that.

Likewise, there are Clinton folks last night that were digging at the Obama supporters, taking pleasure at their 'Boooyaahhh' and 'Obama is done'.
And there were Clinton supporters who also made a classy little post, and that was all.

There have been good and bad posters on the sides of each candidate. Don't let any group of supporters behavior here affect your view of a candidate. Just see how many disruptors the mods have been dealing with lately. It's an anonymous forum. Who know what asylum half of us escaped from.

36. That is incrediubley Myopic
To the extent Obama supporters crowed. It was because we wsuddenly found ourselves with real legitimacy. No doubt some "vicotry dances were excessive...but who is entitled to throu a flag on our exhuberance?

As for New Hamphire the mud thowing by Hillary fans has been as obnoxious, but this was an election that she was suppose to win.

All your cavets amount to a prett vain attempt to dis Obama supporters from a prett arrogant high perch. Everyone is guilty of to much celeberation and derision... It was hardly worth the time ypou put into your OP

in NH. Then there was a bit of stunned silence.

then his supporters would be more reserved.

feared that HRC would not reign supreme in NH.

Naughty! Naughty! ;) <tease - sort of>

80. I think you see bitterness where there is none. I even said "It's better here."
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 03:33 PM by Perry Logan
I said "It's better here. I'd rather have Obamites gloating than have them attacking their fellow Democrats. I'm finding Obama's ascendancy to be surprisingly restful as far as DU is concerned. Gloating may be offensive, but at least one doesn't feel compelled to refute it."

I think that's more laid back than bitter. But thanks for calling me a hypocrite.

51. Agreed. I'd be more likely to vote for Obama if I didn't read DU.
I flirted with an Obama vote until Obama began to alienate my community. But he has plummeted to last place--maybe even unjustly so--based on the amount of completely intolerable Obama supporters I've encountered. I thought I'd never vote for Hillary over any candidate, but, wow. My distrust for him is palpable to everyone around me now.

Imo, nobody beats hillary's surrogates for obnoxiousness and the Obama supporters are some of the nicest people on DU, excluding me, of course.

As I made quite clear in the OP, my order of preference is Edwards, then Obama, and finally Clinton.

Did you not bother to read it, or are you calling me a liar?

71. Perhaps true. On the flipside, after the Obama victory there was a
far greater anti-Obama hatefest than there was after the Clinton. Obama supporters were far more gracious in defeat than the Clinton supporters were.

your problem. Obama's Iowa out-turn and Hillary's flat out cannot be verified as is what will happen in November, no paper trail and you think that stealing the election again can N-e-v-e-r happen.

88. Nice try but sorry...
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 04:17 PM by DivorcingNeo
It simply gets under some people's skin that Senator Obama has been doing so well and has such feverish support. HRC supporters and others expect us to fall in line and except her inevitability but sorry it's not that kind of party.

I think some people are trying to point out the truth from fiction. Maybe in some instances it's more heavy handed (and flat out rude) than others but it is what it is.

I am sorry but no one has the moral high ground in this argument. There's been plenty of mud flung on all sides. I've heard some disgusting comments on this forum about OB's Children, his wife and he himself. Bigoted, vile and contemptible.

So, sorry I won't be shamed into staying mum. I don't need to be gracious to Hillary because I do not believe in her candidacy. I don't bash her personally (per se) but I call her and her campaign out on their BS. That includes Bill Clinton's as well. However she has one more time to send one of her minions out to filter irrelevant bullshit out to the press and electorate (like Cocaine gate) and I will start talking very nasty. She and Bill have far too many skeletons in their own closets to be playing that game.

I call everyone out, no one is exempt from my wrath!

92. BTW, I noticed the Obama supporters are the ones stating that
it's the Hillbots that were rude and the Hillary supporters stating the Obama supporters were rude. Because I am neutral and don't have a pick, my observation is that the Obama supporters (the loudest ones) were the rudest. I'm not saying the Hillary supporters weren't rude, just that the Obama's were ruder. And they've been that way since the campaign started. The truth hurts, I know.
