99.5% of the nation Thanks You, New Hampshire!
It was pretty obvious there was a media attempt at coronation, before 99.5 % of the people were allowed to participate. At first it appeared to work, the emotional stampede was solidifying with poll after poll indicating a largely manufactured momentum based on little more than personality, image, and the buzz word of change.

For whatever reason the outcome changed from the expectation, and for that the rest of the nation thanks you New Hampshire. Unlike 2004, New York, California, Illinois, and many other higher delegated states will not be denied their input, after another media stampeded momentum coronated candidate.

Perhaps three and a half weeks of reflection will allow more issues to be discussed. With another debate maybe some real questions will be asked, and just perhaps, a larger spectrum of issue related opinions from a larger cross section of the country will be reflected, rather than media hyped emotion bated image and personality, trumping substance.

Who knows, it might even lead to a brokered convention, where a broader platform representing a broader base, by necessity, would be the outcome. One can dream, can't one?

1. I think you meant to type "Iowa" in your subject line
That's what stopped the talk of coronation. Unfortunately, that talk started up again last night. Evidence is right here on this board.

2. You're kidding yourself if you think the media hasn't been in full-on "Obama King of the Democrats"
mode for several weeks already...... I'm glad she won, not because I'm a Hillary supporter, but because I wanted a chance to vote. A one-week presidential primary season is downright pathetic...

11. one more thing
(too late to edit my last post)

I'm not saying that the media wasn't riffing on the meme of Hillary's inevitability for several months, just that Obama became a golden boy several weeks ago and Clinton was savaged by the media.

I'm just glad this isn't over before it even got started. I don't have a horse in this race (I'm really not that fond of either Obama or Clinton, I wish that Clark or Gore had joined, or that Biden/Dodd/Richardson had gained momentum), I'm just glad that there's still a race on our side.

4. Actually no I meant New Hampshire, ...
but I do understand what you are saying. What I am saying is the media was suggesting the polls were indicating an unstoppable momentum if Obama decisively defeated Clinton. The media pumped the 'change' buzz word for all it was worth, while at the same time suggesting Obama and Edwards owned the patent. Watching CBS, ABC, CNN, and even FOX, the agent of change glowing of charisma, and was about to turn the status quo on its head.

That the voters for whatever reason rejected this, gives a few more weeks to counter what was mostly a media manufactured perception of momentum.

3. You Might Not Want to Mention Coronation, Some of Us Have Memories
Of the last two years, when the Clinton camp was pushing the inevitability meme. And let's be fair, Clinton was tearing up at how she deals with the pressure. It was thought of someone taking away her tiara that brought tears, not the plight of Americans and innocent Iraqi civilians.

5. You do not know how happy that makes me
I thought I'd completely lost my mind, so many people defending that scene. You just don't know.

6. Indeed. If Obama had been beaten soundly in Iowa and NH, there would be little ...
talk from the Clinton camp about a rush to judgment or a coronation.

7. I won't comment on the tears, but, ...

I would like to simply state, I am in neither the Clinton or Obama camp. I'll not deny the inevitability meme has been pushed by the media and people on this board. Poster #2 said it well, a one or two week primary is pathetic.

9. Iowa broke up the Clinton coronation. New Hampshire put it right back on schedule.

10. Iowa broke up the Clinton coronation, New Hampshire broke up the Obama coronation, ...
do you really think there will be another coronation before Feb 5, 2008? The Clinton victory in New Hampshire was less than three percent. If Obama can not compete from here on out when he has a one delegate edge from the first two contests, then his campaign was empty fluff led by nothing more that buzz words, rhetoric and emotion. I think you might be underestimating your candidate.

He could very well match Hillary delegate for delegate right up to the convention, if he has the substance you think he has. From what I have seen so far in this popularity contest, most people are voting from emotion, and a near dead heat seems possible. Who knows, it could end up Edwards would have the delegates to broker either Hillary or Obama to victory, after concessions to the platform. That would be a winner for anyone who is concerned of the corporate domination in our politics. It could be a small first step, of regaining a tiny non corporate influence in the platform.

12. Even on Feb 5, a coronation is unacceptable.
There is no need to have a Democratic nominee until August 28, 2008. Who benefits from these corporatist funded, DLC manipulated, front-loaded primaries??

Certainly not real Democrats or the majority of the American people.

13. Bingo, like minds and all that, ...

it would be nice if it was close to the end, which would give influence to a wider base if brokering were required to win the nomination.

In the perfect world a whole different system of state primaries would be much more fair in relation to population and regions, as well it would be harder for small factions of self interest with monetary power, to manipulate.
