Edwards statement on Kerry's Obama endorsement.....
from email:

EDWARDS STATEMENT ON SENATOR KERRY’S ENDORSEMENT OF SENATOR OBAMA

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – John Edwards released the following statement today about Senator John Kerry’s endorsement of Senator Barack Obama.

“Our country and our Party are stronger because of John’s service, and I respect his decision. When we were running against each other and on the same ticket, John and I agreed on many issues. I continue to believe that this election is about the future, not the past, and that the country needs a President who will fight aggressively to end the status quo and change the Washington system and to give voice to all of those whose voices are ignored in the corridors of power.”

86. Excellent input there.
Your attitude is so healthy and charming.

Peck, peck, peck.

Comments like yours remind me of how chickens keep the "Pecking Order" while trapped in their coop.

You think Edwards is out?

What odds are you offering?

Ready to make a bet?

Whatever odds you offer I'd like to say that a guy who gets 15% of the vote (thus far) and polls well against all the Republican contenders (unlike some other democratic candidates) shouldn't be dismissed in such an off-hand manner.

Would you like to stand up at the convention and tell everyone that chooses Edwards that they wasted their vote? What an inspiring message!

Look, the Democratic party shouldn't be about belittling the underdog. Perhaps Edwards isn't the sort of contender you want to vote for, but you demonstrate how little you differ from the NeoCon/Faux crowd by the thinking your comment illustrates.

Join the appropriate party please.

you've apparently failed to notice that the one thing that poster doesn't do is respect Edwards.

All they talk about is how he should drop out, how his campaign is doomed, etc.

Did you miss that? Or is that "respectful" to you?

what his past comments on Edwards say, so I can agree with you on that point. I just took fault with what I perceived the comment to mean, which is very possibly not the way it was meant.

I will be voting absentee for Edwards tomorrow in the California primary, btw, at least I hope I will, my ballot should be getting here any day now.

31. May not have hurt, but probably wouldn't help
Gore's endorsement of Dean in 2004 didn't help-- and he actually WON the presidency in 2000.

Kerry lost a race he could easily have won in 2004, had he not run it on the Dukakis model. His flopsweat won't do any favors to anyone this year.

i was doubting my drunken sanity.......

the only way Kerry could ever get off my shit list is if he did this to help john
on purpose

and it does help john,
we needed a little news....
of any kind
and this really fits the bill
but i really don't think Kerry is all that bright

JRE is gracious but i suspect
that just like AL G he truly dislikes them all

the pack of jerks
i honestly think the Kucinich thing is direct taunt at Kerry,
for being such a team player he gave away the election last time
and now he is trying to screw it up again
see there marching order are to push Obama to stop Edwards
Al really wants to endorse john but he smells a rat
i.e. his last endorsement was the KOD for HD
this is the narrative he fears
they aren't that smart
Al your stock is up and an endorsement on super t day would be huge

AL if your out there remember
these people are not that smart
it is not a trap

I don't think this is much of a big deal, Kerry lost a lot of credibility with me and many others when he gave in so quickly after the election. We all know that not every vote counted back then, and that made me feel like my money, support, and vote didn't mean much to him.

Actions speak louder than words.

Hell John you even were pissed at kerry for not spending more money in certain states that you knew you might win and then you were pissed at kerry for not going after the swift boat people and their allegations...Yes john you were pissed at kerry and he caused the dems to look weak..seems like you were the only fighter in that campaign with kerry...but the person that fought back the republican atack machine that made it possible for dems to go after them in 06 was Bill CLinton and him appearing on the Fox News Sunday show and he went straight for the jugular of the moderator. Clinton made it possible for the dems to find their voice in 06.....

Sloppy thinking.

You don't even have the respect to throw in a caveat. i.e. "if Edwards drops out"

You can't think of any scenario where he gets the nomination?

Why is it that so many people seem to want him to drop out?

If he's such a dud and non-contender then what's the threat?

Ah.

There's the rub.

Who is threatened by Edwards? Who thinks he won't play ball where the others will?

Hmmmmmmmmm.

42. Edwards is a true gentleman.
Fortunately, I'm still free to be a very sassy lady.

And as such, I will say that I think Kerry has shown his true, petty, spiteful side. What is Kerry trying to say with his endorsement of Obama? That he made a mistake when he chose Edwards as his vice president? Is this an admission on Kerry's part that he did not exercise good judgment in handling his campaign? Kerry needs to get the courage to say what he thinks out loud for once. He and Obama have the same problem: they are passive-aggressive. They don't want to admit just how seething with anger they really are. So they play nice and stab people in the back. This is a bad trait. And Kerry likes Obama because he recognizes in Obama the same neuroses that he himself has. Kerry and Obama: they talk about fighting, but they avoid it at all cost.

You may not like lawyers who really practice law (like Edward). But there is one thing you have to say for us: we are not afraid of confrontation. We are not afraid of speaking our minds, of getting "beat up" at least verbally. Americans want a leader who is not afraid of getting beat up. Americans will only trust you as a president if you are willing to fight for them. We have always lost the White House when we put up these namby-pamby passive aggressive types like Kerry and Obama.

Stop and think folks. We need Edwards. He is a fighter. The American people will trust him when the time comes. They will not trust Obama. They will trust Hillary more than Obama. The problem with Hillary is that they won't like her. The American people elect candidates they like and trust. That's Edwards.

This was a very class-less move by Kerry - a low, spiteful shot at Edwards. We could psychoanalyze John Kerry for long hours. Interesting that you see some similar traits in Obama. I am really looking forward to seeing how he holds up in the weeks and months ahead.

78. RIGHT ON !!!!!

absolutely 100% right. i look at kerry, i look at obama, and i go, "yeah that's about right".

kerry gives me that skull and bones vibe ever since he THREW the 2004 election, especially the lack-of-fighting-vote-fraud.

i want obama readers who see this to think: "how can i get these people to trust obama?" "why do they think obama is being less than straightforward with his positions?" etc. and not feel like we are personally attacking here. these are problems obama must solve before the general, or else he will be painted as a coke sniffer and far worse. if he doesn't stand for anything, he'll sadly fall :(

my memory of kerry's positions in 2004: ________blank__________

not because i wasn't paying attention, but because Kerry's campaign and platform SUCKED. after having to watch that for a season, i totally understand the pure content of Edwards' campaign. Edwards is never going to tolerate a bullshit campaign again, and even his influence on Obama and Clinton is causing THEM to can the bullshit !!!

53. What else could he say?
Be gracious, be brief, make a positive statement about what you hope to achieve as president.

Any statement under these circumstances is crafted to put the candidate in a positive light and give the media sharks nothing to feed on.

It says more about Edwards' political good sense than about his character.

I'm not disparaging his character. I'm just saying you can't read too much into this statement.

76. "Muzzle Elizabeth?"
Tell me you did not just say that. If your a woman, that really surprise's me that you would say that. And if your a, well, man, dude you better get yourself some experience with women.

A real man is never interested in having a relationship with a woman he can "muzzle."

111. I heard that phrasing a lot in non-gender-related context.
For example, a President who has a loudmouth cabinet member. "He has to muzzle that guy" is often said.

I see no sexism here.

83. yes it was a great response
better than I would have given considering how upset I'd be if I was the VP choice in 04 and got snubbed. John inspires me to try and always take the high road, and he's older than I am so he encourages me in his own behavior to go above the obvious, because Obama and he are not too far off in principal - so it's a good endorsement. It's just that Obama doesn't seem too aware that these GOP people are all connected to the BFEE and they don't want a Dem in the White House ever again. They will swiftboat, cheat, steal, rig, and lie every single chance they get.

My email will be FLOODED with anti-Obama and anti-Clinton email if they're the respective nominee, and even if it's John, there'll be some in my email about him too, from the hundreds of contacts I have who forward everything.

I continue to hope for a John Edwards surge in the polls!

81. Gratifying to hear he handled it gracefully
Edwards is my choice, but any Dem in the race is a good candidate and would make a fine president. I'm glad Edwards didn't make a divisive comment because we need unity this year. It's time to take the Republicans out of power and the only way to do that is to be stronger than they are. Infighting will only serve their purpose.

93. STOP ATTACKING KERRY !!!
Edwards didn't attack Kerry for his decision, so why is anyone else???? Please be consistent.
Kerry sees the writing on the wall and probably also voted his both his mind and his heart. Edwards is a victim of bad timing and his resources will dry up. He can't beat Hillary or Obama in these primaries. Obama attracts both men and women, Independents, and even some cross over Republicans to his camp. HILLARY DOES NOT. Indeed, she UNITES the Republicans. Her ability to win the GENERAL ELECTION is much more doubtful than it would be with Obama who has such cross appeal. SEE THE REALITY FOLKS. LET'S NOT BLOW YET ANOTHER PRESIDENTIAL OPPORTUNITY. GO OBAMA!!!!

100. John Edwards is a gentleman
and a leader.

If the MSM isn't busy avoiding him, they quote him out of context.

Listening to his speeches, both my undecided SO and several people
have remarked, " I've never heard anyone say that before!"

That's right, folks- he's pulling out all the stops and going after the big guys!
That takes guts and it's very risky. Look who he's up against.

It's true, he needs to expand his topics to include foreign policy
and education. He has healthcare and the economy down pat.

I'm with John Edwards till the end.
As long as he's in the race, I'm voting for him.

Go Edwards :applause:

PS- My son supported Richardson- now he's in our camp.

106. It's January folks!
Hellooooooo....

we've had 2 <2 1/2 really> votes in the preliminary process. It is friggin' January and the big vote doesn't come 'til November. There is a long way to go and much time to forget what has happened already and for new things to come down the pike. Talking about Edwards dropping out now and who will win, now, is just plain stupid.

110. It would be stupid, if we didn't see soft Edwards supporters here flipping
for Clinton or Obama as if the polling wasn't speculative but actually sent back from the future and actually showed the reality... people are literally being swept away by polling... or making decisions based on personality or what other supporters do.

It's madness!

I hope most of Edwards supporters aren't soft supporters, and will stay with him as long as he stays in.
