Clinton’s Message, and Moment, Won the Day

At first, the moment seemed like a disaster: The televised images of the teary-eyed exchange Hillary Rodham Clinton had with a New Hampshire voter about the rigors of the campaign caused her advisers to express fears that it would badly undercut her message of strength and experience.

Some advisers were so concerned that they did not e-mail video of the Monday incident to Clinton supporters, as they usually do when Senator Clinton makes positive news. “We have absolutely no idea how her getting this emotional will play with voters,” one adviser said.

It turned out to play phenomenally well, one of several turning points during Mrs. Clinton’s five-day sprint in New Hampshire after the Iowa caucuses that transformed the dynamic of her race against Senator Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Women, in particular, responded: Several said they chose to vote for Mrs. Clinton at the last moment because she had shown a human side of herself that they had never seen.

1. Yes, the media just got it wrong. She didnt "come back." Her message just simply won
She did well with the base.

She did well with women.

She did well with young voters.

She did well with independents.

Lots of undecided people existed in NH and the pollsters misread the tea leaves. If anything happened in the last 48 hours, it wasn't about tears and such. It was about FEAR mongering. Yes. If anything worked to consolidate her lead, I suspect it was the sense that Obama just didn't have enough experience.

In the end... NH went with Mccain and Clinton.

The party brand names for the loyalists who were both running on national-level prestige and experience.

2. Our candidates are truly some of the strongest people on earth.
They're thrown into the meat grinder daily, yet they manage to stay positive and stay on message. I do love it that HIllary's human side resonated with voters. K&R!

4. Yes, that "moment" won her a few percentage points
nothing statistical, just listening to comments from a few women.

Nice photo, looks like it could be Ste. Hillary.

We'll see if "the moment" has legs going into superpalooza tuesday.

And we'll see if Obama has "a moment" on superpalooza eve.
