Did Bill Clinton Mislead when he said that he had opposed Iraq from the Beginning, recently?
"Even though I approved of Afghanistan and opposed Iraq from the beginning," said Clinton, "I still resent that I was not asked or given the opportunity to support those soldiers."

Clinton has long been critical of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and called it a "big mistake" as far back as November of 2005.

But like his wife, the former president supported giving President Bush the authority needed to go to war.

"I supported the President when he asked the Congress for authority to stand up against weapons of mass destruction in Iraq," said Clinton in 2003 while delivering commencement remarks at Tougaloo College in Jackson, Miss.

Early opposition to the Iraq war is one of the sharpest dividing lines between Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., who voted to authorize force in 2002, and Democratic presidential rival Barack Obama, D-Ill., who was not in Congress at the time but spoke out against it.

A spokesman for Bill Clinton tried to downplay the former president's comments by distinguishing between the authority to go to war, which both Clintons supported, and President Bush's decision to use that authority when he did.

4. If, in fact, he DID oppose it, maybe he should have
talked more with his wife about it, before she voted in favor of the IWR, (which she has, to this day, refused to even acknowledge the possibility that she may have been wrong), and before she voted in favor of EVERY SINGLE WAR FUNDING BILL put forth by the administration.

15. He sure managed to get all over the news today
He sure managed to make news with his finger wagging episode on Fox last year.

How come he wasn't all over the news trying to stop the war?

16. well you could vote for it and still be against the war...
wasn't the vote authorizing force to look for weapons if all else failed? then bush invaded when he shouldn't have, and then also waged an all out war. i don't know, i'm asking. it seems like what happened and what is happening was not what the authorization allowed.

18. Did you see either of them on the news??
He was on the news today. He was making a big stink on Fox news last year. She managed to get on the news when she was backstabbing John Kerry over a non-joke.

But you think they couldn't get all over the news if they were seriously opposing the war??

She says the same thing. Now. Back then she said she supported the war, but objected to the way the war was being managed. Check her Dec 15 2003 speech at the Council on Foreign Relations.

27. no, i just recognize that each of these candidates has flaws. some of them..
quite major. and in fact, someone could have major flaws and still be imo better for the country then someone who had less personal flaws, or less mistakes in their past. i'm not all or nothing.

i've even considered obama top choice. but i'm not going to defend absolutely everything one of them does. i think they can each be right or wrong on different issues.

31. : ). he just pisses me off sometimes. i hate to see him get in the way...
of his wife's campaign. i think he IS right to fight for her, but i often get worried about his influence overshadowing her. it's one of the reservations i have about her candidacy. but i still support her, and very much like him as well. heck, i love my sister, but that B is psychotic. :D

19. I really like Bill but he is trying to rewrite history here
He certainly played the "I'm in the know" card and believed that Sadaam had WMD according to his intelligence briefings when President. It's long been my opinion that his anti-Sadaam lobbying influenced Sen Clinton's vote on the IWR. "In the Know Bill" was lobbying her hard, possibly against her better instincts.

(I hope that's not regarded as sexist by the overly sensitive. If the genders were reversed (ala Matalin/Carville) in pernicious spousal lobbying, my opinion would be the same.)

Neither Clinton has the least bit of credibility on this war. They both supported it from the beginning.
