DLC tells reporters on conference call that Edwards isn't "viable."

D.L.C. Leaders Cut Edwards Out

By Ariel Alexovich

As would be expected, the two gentlemen from the Democratic Leadership Council on a conference call today told reporters they’re very confident in their party’s chances of reclaiming the White House, they’re happy that substantive issues are being discussed…

And then Al From, the D.L.C. founder, said he was “very happy about the two candidates” Americans are considering.

Only two candidates?

Our ears perked up as we listened on.

<...>

Well, O.K. But what about John Edwards? He beat Mrs. Clinton in Iowa, as one reporter pointed out, but Mr. From still doesn’t think Mr. Edwards is viable.

more

Yeah, big news: The bloodsucking irrelevant DLC leaders, who none of the candidates (except the other half of Billary) wanted to associate with last year, tell a bunch of reporters Edwards isn't viable!

2. well he is viable in the ability to siphon votes from Obama
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 12:58 AM by TheWebHead
other than that, he has to hope for an implosion from one of the top two, as much as it angers his supporters.

3. He is viable, in the sense that he can still change the outcome of the race
by staying in it, getting out of it, or endorsing someone else. He is not viable in the sense that he will not be winning any states, to say nothing of the nomination.

6. More importantly, he changes the *dialogue* in the race
If it wasn't for Edwards, Obama and Clinton would still be debating who wanted to nuke Tehran the most.

15. I gather you didn't read the speech
Edwards gave last January to Israelis via satellite feed. It was very much booga wooga Iran evil. More so than anything I've seen from either Clinton or Obama.

None of them want to nuke Tehran, and Edwards is hardly the plaster Saint with bleeding heart you make him out to be.

4. From should have his sword broken on Jimmy Carter's knee
and then be expelled from the party, with some sort of ritual display of fire involved.

Atrocious little maggot.

10. Edwards isn't my guy, but people like Al From need to leave him the fuck alone
He has been good for the party in this race, by keeping the reality of corporate excess on the front-burner. It has kept the other two front-runners from playing it too safe which gives the party a chance to be more relevant in November, not less.

11. By All Means, We Should Let Corporatist From & Loser Ford
pick our candidates for us. They must, must I tell you, have OUR best interests at heart.

12. I'm sorry, but I really do agree
He's just not presidential material, imho. His strength is that, Because he's the true underdog, he can afford to go all out and say Exactly what people want to hear. Does Anybody really believe if he were in Hillary or Obamas shoes he'd be campaigning the same way?

No, he's just trying to make himself stand out.

13. The DLC are responsible for Bush's "win" in 2004.
I found the following paragraph interesting for what it implies about the DLC and their policies.

(snip)
......
During the rest of the call, the two men said they were pleased that none of the Democratic candidates supports a single-payer health care system, that they are all taking the environment seriously, and that they’re focusing on national security — a strength that Mr. From admits, “we’ve not always had.”
......

NONE of the Democratic candidates supports a single-payer health care system??? Then what party does Dennis Kucinich belong to? And from her own words, Clinton is committed to keeping the current corporate ripoff system intact -- something almost NO Americans want to do. Clinton said in one of the debates that she would work for health care "reform" by the "end of her second term". Since by then she will be a lame duck president with no clout, one can only understand her own words as meaning she will NEVER achieve health care reform.

Edwards has said he would start from the BEGINNING of his presidency to work for health care reform. This is realistic as it is going to take awhile to accomplish.

The comment by From that they are "focusing on national security" I interpret as buzz words for Clinton's enthusiasm for keeping troops in Iraq "forever" and attacking Iran.
