Please K&R the Candidate Quiz that every DUer should try
Please excuse the re-post, but -- based on all the feedback -- this is the best quiz out there, and with your kicks and recs, a lot more people will get to try it.

The quiz is hosted on a Dutch site, of all places:

http://www.eenvandaag.nl/stemwijzerusa/en /

At the end, it gives you a nice rundown of the different candidates' positions relative to yours.

Unfortunately, it doesn't list Kucinich or Ron Paul, but it's a good chance to see how you stand relative to the others.

1. K and R
My results corresponded the most with my candidate, Edwards. The Republican I had the most in common with was Huckabee. haha

2. Candidate quizzes are useless
people don't vote based on policy positions. If we did, I'd vote for some of the people here.

These silly quizzes don't take into account the real factors people use for deciding their vote - competence, trustworthiness, experience, etc.

If we voted just on a list of policy positions, it would be a lot easier - but it doesn't work that way.

3. Besides...
and perhaps unfortunately, how often do candidates really ever follow through on their policy positions (either for doing something else entirely, lack of trying or being unable to convince others necessary to the issue).

That was a bit too cynical I guess. After all, their positions on various issues does provide at least some insight into how the individual thinks (unless they don't think and accept whatever their handlers suggest or the polls indicate are popular--ex. the current pretender to the office).

Granted, in my opinion it's true that few voters bother with rational indicators (and instead rely on nonsensical estimations such as "he looks presidential", "I wanna drink beer with him", "God told him to be my president", "his family looks nice", "the polls say I should vote for this one--since he/she's going to win" (<--possibly the worst possible reason?), "he/she made mincemeat of their opponents on their TV commercials", and so many more...).

5. What I like about this quiz...
... is that it ends with an easy-to-read breakdown that might challenge your thoughts about which candidate is closest to you.

So, well-informed DUers might want to send it to their less politically minded friends and family to get them thinking past who's "beer-worthy."

6. Kucinich isn't included?
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 09:18 AM by IanDB1
It's no surprise to me that absent Kucinich, Edwards comes up as my #1 match. However, it gives Hillary a slightly better match than Obama, unlike any other similar quiz I've taken.

And oddly, Adolf 9iu11ani is my #1 match among the Repukes.

When I take THIS quiz, I match with Kucinich 96%
http://glassbooth.org

# Dennis Kucinich 96% similarity
# 2 Mike Gravel 94% similarity
# 3 John Edwards 80% similarity

Clinton at 76% and Obama at 73%.
Ron Paul at 55% and 9iu11ani at 32%

7. Wow, it got my opinions of the candidates exactly right.
Thanks for posting this link. I took a different quiz and it had my opinions of the candidates totally wrong, I think it was run by KKKarl. This one, on the other hand, is very accurate.
