Clinton camp hits Obama | Attacks 'painful' for black voters
Many in state offended by criticism of Obama, remarks about King
By WAYNE WASHINGTON - wwashington@thestate.com

Sharp criticism of Barack Obama and other comments about Martin Luther King Jr. — all from people associated with Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign — have generated resentment among some black S.C. voters.

The furor comes just two weeks before those voters will have a significant say in who wins the Jan. 26 primary here.

The Clinton-Obama battle has the potential to become a wrenching divide for black voters. Historically those voters have been strong backers of Bill and Hillary Clinton. But many black voters now are drawn to the prospect of a black man winning the presidency.

Those on both sides say watching the battle unfold in the Palmetto State, where black voters could cast half of the votes in the Democratic primary, won’t be pretty.

“To some of us, it is painful,” said state Sen. Darrell Jackson, a Clinton supporter.

21. consider the 2001 NYC Mayoral Race.
White candidate Mark Green went uber-nasty with racist literature in many communities, against hispanic runner Fernando Ferrer.

The democratic primary hit a fever pitch in negativity and then calls of voter fraud went mostly unheard.

The dems had the race in the bag, until that all happened. Combined with the depression of 9/11, the voter-turn out for democrats was low, especially among minorities who were very alienated by the campaigning.

Democratic Primary #1: 785,365 votes
Democratic Primary Run-off: 790,019 votes

Mark Green's final votes: 709,268
Bloomberg's Final votes: 744,757

Notice that the vote court for the PRIMARY was way higher than the counts for the dems and also for Bloomberg.

Turn-out was disgracefully low, mostly because of the nasty racist smearing during the primary.

Sound familiar?

but I'm tired of arguing about, so I just sent her another $100 donaton. I'm thinking about putting 10 dollars aside for every smear and every attack, (up to the max I can afford) and send her that amount monthly.

After, that's all who she will listen to, those with a check. Give her two million and she might even make you an ambassador!

It was clearly a mistake for her to say that and she should apologize just based on the perception of how it came out.

Repuke attack dogs will be at his throat and it won'tbe pretty. If Obama's supporters continue to imply that attacks on Obama are racially as opposed to politically motivated, America is going to another Repuke president.

19. Obama on Clinton
“She’s also a skilled politician,” Obama said, “and she’s run what Washington would call a ‘textbook’ campaign.

But the problem is the textbook itself. It’s a textbook that’s all about winning elections, but says nothing about how to bring the country together to solve problems.

24. It's also dangerous for the long-term viability of our party
One can see why the Clintons would play such politics, but it is already severely fraying the coalition that has held the Democratic Party together, and it will be impossible to put it back together after this.

I hate to see their smear-fest entering into an even new low..they'd be doing the same to Edwards if he were giving hillary any competion..except they'd have to find a new tactic with John Edwards but I'm sure mark the smear-meister penn could come up with something.

37. Hillary's comments regarding MLK were not just odd to Black voters
What she said would seem odd to anyone that has ever held a protest sign.

“Dr King’s dream began to be
realized when President Lyndon
Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
It took a president to get it done.”

Do you think she believes that it was Nixon and not the thousands of protesters marching that actually ended the Vietnam War?

39. Yea, it's painful alright because there was no disrepect of
MLK Jr in anything HRC said. Nor was there any disrepect towards Obama in the Bill Clinton speech. If one views the Clinton speech one will come away knowing the term "fairy tale" was directed towards the mediawhores.....And the reference to MLK by HRC was out of respect that MLK brought forth this serious problem facing America and it would take a President to help get this through Congress. MLK made America aware of the race problems in this country and LBJ knew in his heart this was a righteous and the right thing to do.

43. Not to mention that while she insulted MLK, she also said exactly why Obama should be president.
If, as she claimed, it took a president to realize MLK's dream, Obama becoming president would be able to turn the dreams into reality.
