8. For all intents and purposes. While he's a great voice for the working class,
it is not the media's job to provide an audience for a voice. Their job is, at the moment, reporting on the news that might determine who the next President will be. Given his current financial state and the current state of the polling, John Edwards is extraordinarily unlikely to win the Democratic nomination, while both Hillary and Obama have a decent shot, with Hillary having the edge.

9. It is the media job to cover ALL candidates and not to predetermine a "winner"

11. All? There are dozens and dozens of declared candidates. They cover the candidates
people find relevant (I note you are not complaining about Duncan Hunter's lack of coverage, for example). If station A is doing a bad job, station B will do a better job, and poach viewers from A. If more people were interested in coverage of John Edwards, John Edwards would have more media coverage.

13. Matt Tabbi of Rolling Stone as well as other members of the media admit that there is a "Blackout"
Edited on Sat Jan-12-08 08:27 PM by saracat
on Edwards. It is now being publicly discussed. This has NOTHING to do with what the "people" want. I have worked in broadcast media, and this is not only about bought media but earned media. It is the earned media on which there is a blackout. This is "political" coverage and it is being manipulated. To say anything else is disingenuous. This isn't about selling soap, and the networks know it.This is about media consolidation.

19. Yeah, there is a blackout on him. Because he's A, uninteresting and B, has no way of winning.

violate my rule of not insulting posters! I do not insult your candidate and see no reason you should be vicious toward mine.

12. The Republican field is far more open than the Democratic at this point. Each candidate
(of Giuliani, McCain, Huckabee, and Romney) might well win the nomination, depending on how Michigan and Florida break. Edwards, on the other hand, has few options; it's extraordinarily unlikely he will win any major states.

15. Fred Thompson was once viable. If you've noticed, the media coverage of him has dropped off.
Ron Paul is not viable, but represents an interesting backlash in the Republican party. John Edwards is an also-ran.

24. That is because the MSM did not select two candidates for the Repukes lilke they did with the Dems
I can understand Hillary since she was the early leader and dominated 2007 but the media consciously selected Obama from the moment he jumped into the ring.

26. Crafty MSM. You know, back when Hillary was leading,
it was "The MSM only hypes Hillary! Hillary is the MSM candidate!"

When Obama briefly led, it was:
it was "The MSM only hypes Obama! Obama is the MSM candidate!"

Now that it's between Obama and Hillary, it's:
it was "The MSM only hypes Obama and Hillary! Obama and Hillary are the MSM candidates!"

And I guarantee that if things had broken differently, and if Edwards had managed to build a formidable lead, it would be "The MSM only hypes Edwards! Edwards is the MSM candidate!"

Repeating a slogan on DU does not an internet phenomenon make.
