Dear John Edwards,

I appreciate you saying that you're sticking around and continuing the battle! Even though you've stated this to millions of supporters glee - and the disgust of many who want you silenced - I still would like to show you and your campaign a thread of some of us saying how much we appreciate you. We will continue to work and support you to become president and reach out to our friends, coworkers, and the media to have our voices heard, and have you heard.

We know the corporate-owned media is silencing you every chance they get. You were given under 5 seconds of discussion on most stations after you beat out Hillary in Iowa, and we know that this media is far from 'liberal', and they have a strangle hold on the people, but we believe in your message - because it is OUR message.

We need you in the White House! We know you will bring justice, and we thank you for your promise to stop the Iraq occupation, bring accountability to the corporations, uncover the fraudulent activities of the current administration in the spygate, Katrina, and illegal surveillance scandals, while bringing this country back to where it was, financially, politically, internationally, and environmentally, before the son of Bush was placed in power by the Supreme Court.

If Edward does well enough to stay in the race, his delegates + Obama's delegates would probably equal a majority.

Obama would have more delegates more than likely.

Likely scenario in that case: Obama-Edwards ticket.


The only shot Edwards has at becoming Pres is a brokered convention + being 2nd in delegates + his delegates and the 3rd place person's delegates = a majority.

If Edwards absolutely refuses to join Obama's ticket, however, then anything can happen. Such as a total random outsider becoming our nominee. Gore?

At that point we are at the convention. There is Florida and Michigan which may very well be in play..more Delegate votes.

If on the first vote, there is no clear majority (I think regardless of the outcome of the primary, the at large and super delegates can vote their own desire at this point where the pledged delegates have to vote their pledge), then on the second vote, those that were pledged can now vote their desire...this is where the action starts.

It can happen, but John has to pull a decent percentage and has to have money.

There is a profound difference between the Edwards candidacy and the other candidacies. It is not a question if supporting Edwards, it is rather a question of recognizing who supports us.

All of the criticisms of Edwards compare him to other candidates, and debate the relative merits of the various candidates as though they were products, and as though the extent of our political power and acumen were nothing more than each of us making our own little personal choice for the best product - or performer of the year, or most deserving award recipient, or guru whose values moist align with our own personal values. Others, of course, may measure up better by those standards. Bit the Edwards campaign challenges all of us to reassess the way we look at politics and our role in politics, and to question the context within which all of our political discussions occur.

It doesn't matter if Edwards is done or not, we are not done.

It doesn't matter if Edwards is worthy of support or not - we are not hiring a CEO for Americorp International, as we are being encouraged to think we are doing - what matters is that the constituency he is trying to speak for is worthy of support.

It doesn't matter if Edwards is the perfect choice or not, what matters is what basis we are using for supporting a candidacy - our own personal choice based on static and isolated individualistic criteria, or are we looking for what will best inspire a mass movement, a mass resistance to the complete domination of our politics, our government, and every aspect of our lives by a relative handful of very wealthy and powerful people.

Fight the good fight John, we need your voice.

I sent the link to the campaign with a 2 paragraph explanation. I said many of DU's Edwards backers have left comments for someone to read (hopefully Elizabeth), so we'll see. And thank you for your recommending it, and probably being #100. My Mom will probably be rec'ing it soon.
