My proposal is that whoever the next president is get absolutely NO HONEYMOON in the 1st year of their administration. The reason: Our country is on the brink of depression and our blood and treasure is being drained in the sands of Iraq and Afghanistan. Our infrastructure is crumbling and on the brink of collapse. Decisive action must be taken yesterday. Our country has fallen to such an extent that just to get our economy and international standing to where it was in 2000 will take about another 20-30 years at a minimum, if ever. If this country is to survive, the next president has to start work on Day one. They need to go straight from the inauguration to the office and get to work immediately. No Inaugural Ball, no ceremonies or celebrations, just get right to the job. The next president needs to immediately start withdrawing our troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. They need to have the BFEE arrested for their crimes and immediately put on trial for their myriad crimes. The next president needs to immediately start a public works program to get people working again on the scale of the New Deal. They need to tell corporate lobbyists that they are banned from the halls of power. And that's just for the first week in office. All these things are long overdue and it is crucial that we don't waste a second. If they don't start doing these things, then the protests and demonstrations need to commence immediately. It is time for the people to drive what a president does in office, not just select who gets the job. We need to push the next president mercilessly. No benefit of the doubt. The catchphrase of the next administration should be "deeds not words" . Rhetorical pablum designed to lull the people into complacency should be roundly rejected. We need immediate action and should tolerate no talk of "keeping powder dry" or anything else that delays action.
When the Nazis were on the outskirts of Moscow in 1940, Stalin held a parade at Red Square. The troops and tanks in review rolled past the podium at Lenin's Tomb and headed straight for the front. That is what we face, people. As soon as the new president passes the podium, it's off to the front. We should demand nothing less from our leaders and it is up to us to hold their feet to the fire from minute one.
