A Democratic President
The nightmare continues. The hope that I had as 1999 turned into the year 2000 is being dashed once more by what seems to be insurmountable odds against my choice for president. I am so tired of feeling helpless as my country spirals into madness. The thefts of the 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 elections remain unchallenged. Had these elections been properly monitored and contested, not only would we have a veto proof majority in Congress, but Bush would never have been president. How do private companies convince our elected officials to not only count our votes with no transparency, but to continue to count our votes when the lack of transparency and hackable machines become an issue? Why do we permit this to continue? And what about the other election shinanigans?

What can the 30-odd percent of Americans who still approve of Bush provide as a reason for their continued loyalty to this obviously corrupt, heartless bastard? Do they not see that 70% of America has not found any reason to cheer his office in quite some time? The so-called pundits call us Bush haters, but aren’t we Bush haters for a reason? Our hatred of this man is not some type of genetic quirk that somehow dismisses the issues at hand. However, ironically enough, this trivialization of my feelings is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Since there is no concern for other perspectives within the Bush dead enders, part of me is happy that everything he touches turns to shit if only to finally convince these people of his true nature.

And now that we have finally come to a time and place when we can finally get rid of the Worst…President…Ever, us righteous are fighting amongst ourselves. Should we nominate Clinton, Obama, Edwards or Kucinich? Or should it have been Richardson, Dodd, Biden or Gravel? Our Bush fatigue has tested our nerves for so long that we forget that ANY of these candidates would be better than ANY Republican. We have instilled so much hope in our choice for his replacement that we have turned on each other as if our insults toward another candidate will somehow increase our candidate’s chances of success.

Most of us on this site are quite clear as to why we refuse to vote for any other candidate but our own in our respective primaries. As a gay, black man, I would give anything to be supporting either a female or black man for president. But I think we all know that this election is too important to resort to symbolism. I, for one, must vote my conscience. However, my conscience will also require me to pull the lever for whichever Democratic candidate happens to makes it to the general election. It is imperative to right as many wrongs as we can, rather than allow another Republican administration to continue the carnage of the past seven years.
