A young man, calling in to c-span, said he was supporting Obama ..
If Obama doesn't get the nomination, he and his family will vote for Romney. This scares the shit out of me.. How uninformed many voters are.

have an f-ing clue why, even when he gave her more time to figure out what to say. She actually said, "I don't know."

32. But -- did she know why she wasn't voting for Hillary or Edwards?
The radio guy should have pressed her on that, if she couldn't answer the why of Obama.

It could have been as simple as 'Anybody but Hillary'.......... was not coaxing that out of her intentional on the radio guy's part, or was he sincerely stuck on Obama?

as their first choice of the overall field, but they remain Republicans.

My only Repub friend says he's voting for Obama if he gets our nomination; if not, he'd like to see Huckabee get the Repub nod and he'll vote for him.

31. Again, that's bad news for Hillary.
That's iffy news for Obama (as NH has shown us). But that's much worse for Hillary.

JEDNE -- that's too bad. That's bad for him, too. Not as bad as it would be for Hillary, but still bad.

Republicans like Obama enough to vote for a Democrat. Wow, let's just call them stupid.
Because we sure don't want Republicans voting for our candidate. No not like Reagan got
all those Dems to vote for him. That sure did not turn out well for the Repugs, now did it?

Republicans are signaling from every direction, please please nominate Obama. And you all are saying
that they are stupid. Wow, just, wow. The circular firing squad starts now.

15. Agreed. There are so many people on these forums who are absolute idiots.
I can't believe that so many people who are supposedly tuned into politics lack a fundamental understanding of how things work.

More Votes = Winner

Partisanship has poisoned their brains to the point they have lost their grip on reality. Obviously, to them, if a Republican supports Obama then we MUST vote for the other person. Because... you know... we don't want to win, right?

It's no wonder the progressive movement has failed again and again in this nation. It seems they have an allergic reaction to winning. Whenever it becomes a possibility they purposefully sabotage themselves. The real sad part is these mentally challenged people vote on a constant basis - these are the people voting for our national leaders.

...and we wonder why our nation is so fucked up? Look at the people who vote!

17. Exactly! I wish I could nominate an individual post. I absolutely despise the circular firing squad
Obama is a progressive candidate who appeals to independents and some Republicans. It is downright self-defeating to bash somebody from another party for supporting one of OUR candidates!

14. 'Uninformed' ? Maybe. Maybe not. There's not really enough info to know, right?
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 03:40 PM by TacticalPeek

In Iowa, of Republicans voting in the Democratic caucuses Obama got 44% to Edwards' 32% and Clinton's 10%.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21225980/

In New Hampshire, technically the R's cannot vote in the D primary but can switch affiliation easily, so you have to look at 2 or 3 numbers to get a picture, and the comparison is similar: Obama is a hit with some Republicans.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21225995/

Now, if my candidate were in that situation I suppose I'd try to point to the silver lining of increased support in the general election, somebody who can bring over R's and I's to help insure victory, more solid governing base, blah blah.

However this is not the general election - it's the Democratic party picking its candidate, and I'm tired of our system taking 2 steps toward the R's and one step back to the D's, then three steps toward the R's and one step back toward the D's, just because some D leaders want to be 'fair' to the creeps who plant their foot on necks every chance they get, then yell for teacher when we fight back.

So, anybody who thinks that Obama represents some new, progressive leap forward had better wonder why conservatives, Republicans, Huckabites etc. find him appealing.

Just saying.

16. This is actually good news. I was in Nevada yesterday and got into a conversation
with a Republican who wasn't on my walk list but who really liked Barack Obama. In Nevada, a voter can change his/her registration at 11AM the day of the caucus and vote in the caucus. After I talked to him for a while, he seemed like he was strongly considering doing that to help Barack! Now, I will vote for whoever gets the Democratic nomination, but many independents and moderate Republicans who wouldn't do that would consider doing so for Barack Obama.

30. That's only as good as a non-NH/Bradley situation.
But thank you for getting out there and talking to people.

What happens to those independents and moderate Republicans if Obama's not on the ticket, however? If it is Hillary, where wil they go?

If somebody thinks Romney is a moderate Republican who is pro-choice and pro-gay rights, then I can see where they'd choose Obama on the Dem side.

25. No, it's because he thinks he has only
a choice between Obama and Clinton. He won't vote for Clinton, so he'll end up voting for Romney (or other repub) if Obama doesn't get the nomination. The hatred for Clinton runs deep. Maybe if he knew Edwards was also running,it would make a difference.

27. Agreed, bleachers. There will be no Dem win if Clinton is the
nominee. Many here, including me, have been pointing this out for a while. I live in the South, and the hatred for the Clintons still blazes white-hot, although I don't know why -- they are both actually moderate Republicans in my book. But no one really believes me.

I do hope I'm wrong, because we so desperately need a Dem in. It's already too late to undo a lot of the damage, but to elect another Pub -- well, we will never recover from that. I will then be engaged in buying a retirement place in the wilds of Canada.
