Kucinich Won Washington State Democratic Party Straw Poll,
But As With Virginia, the Party Chose Not to Announce It

http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/29898

Oh, THAT poll

http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/seattlepolitics/archives/129003.asp

"State Democratic Party Chairman Dwight Pelz said Friday he wasn't aware of any polls assessing support for presidential candidates among Democratic voters likely to attend the Feb. 9 caucuses. But after the P-I published an article reflecting that, a couple of savvy readers cried foul.

It seems that the state party itself conducted a straw poll in late 2007, soliciting responses from the thousands of people on its email list. The result was a narrow first-place finish for Dennis Kucinich.

On Monday, Pelz said that didn't quite count."

2. While that may be true, a couple of interesting comments
"If Chairman Dwight Pelz (Dem. Party Chair) were truly democratic and a gentleman, he would acknowledge the grassroots support that Dennis has in Washington State. He would also congratulate Dennis Kucinich for his victory in this secure, online, WA-State-sponsored poll. He refuses to post a photo and congratulatory message on our state website. It's time for a change at the top of the party."

"I came into the Demcratic Party in 2003 because of Dennis Kucinich. I've worked hard for my local Democratic Party organization, the Grays Harbor Democrats. Right now I am helping organize the precinct caucuses and serve as a PCO and ACC. I was hoping to grow the party considerably on February 9 and get out the vote for Gregoire and the Democrats.

This treatment by Pelz of my candidate, Dennis Kucinich, totally alienates me from this party. Pelz says he wants to grow the party and yet look what he has done to hard workers such as myself."

3. You wouldn't be saying that if Obama had won it.
And Pelz wouldn't have suppressed that result either.

4. I am quite consistent. Straw polls are bogus.
As are online polls.

5. Yes, very. AND...
Let's be honest: Does anyone here really think Dennis Kucinich is the leading choice of Democrats in the state of Washington? Okay, stop laughing. Enough said.

7. They reflect the opinions of potential doorbellers and phonebankers
--obviously not the average voter.

11. Agreed. If any of the big 3 won, however, it would have been announced.

6. This is almost as ridiculous as Kucinich laying claim to being a legitimate candidate in his NV
lawsuit by citing his stellar performances in online polls.

My dog just won our household's straw poll, why doesn't the Democratic Party congratulate him?

8. Uh, an email survey is not a good straw poll
AT ALL. Considering that the largest portion of voters are elderly, and most elderly people do not use email.

9. If the Dem party conducted it, they should publish the result. nt
