Leahy on OBAMA:

"We need a president who can reintroduce America to the world – and actually reintroduce America to ourselves," Leahy said in the conference call, saying Obama carried the "hope" to end the war in Iraq and to bring "healthcare for all."

He also compared the decision to support Obama to supporting John F. Kennedy for president.

1. I also have compared Obama to Kennedy.
They both really know how to bring people together. Kennedy was not a great president but may have been if he had lived longer. I expect the same for Obama, a little weak in the first term but great in the second term. The only way you get experience in being a president is by your first term. This however did not apply to Bush who was worse in his second term.

3. The world at large had enough of Americas introductions

Our idea about ourselves as a force for good did never fly anywhere but here at home. Wherever America made a significant impact on the lives of people in other countries it lead to anti-Americanism.

Under Bush we are forced to look in the mirror, and we don't like what we see. Previous presidents took care that we didn't have a mirror. And that's the only difference between them and Bush.

4. Change the trajectory
from the Reagan years to a whole new way to see ourselves and the vaues we believe in.
