Sen. Leahy likens his endorsement of Obama to his endorsement of RFK
And speaks against the Nevada workplace caucus lawsuit

As expected, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) just formally endorsed Barack Obama in a conference call with reporters. "We need a president who can reintroduce America to the world, and reintroduce America to ourselves," Leahy said, later adding, "Barack Obama represents the America we once were and want to be again."

Leahy likened his support of Obama to the 1968 presidential campaign, when as a young prosecutor he endorsed Robert Kennedy over Hubert Humphrey. "He was bringing us a sense of hope, bringing us together," Leahy said. "I know those are intangibles, but it encouraged me to go against the establishment in my own state, and go with Bobby Kennedy."

Leahy also came out strongly against the ongoing lawsuit in Nevada, where the state teachers union and some Clinton backers are trying to shut down the special caucus locations for Las Vegas Strip workers. "If you're shutting people out from the nominating process, you're going to be discouraging people all the way down," Leahy said. "And that's not the approach we want to take in the United States."

1. Very high praise, from a statesman and stalwart of the party. Eat it, Obama haters.

2. Great remarks. I particularly liked...
"We need a president who can reintroduce America to the world, and reintroduce America to ourselves".

We need that. And I agree that Obama can provide it.

12. I don't think she is divisive but a major talking point from the
nut jobs on the right and carried ad nausea by the media is that she is. Unfortunately, perception is reality so she will be seen as a divider, not a uniter.

16. You don't think she's divisive...but it already looks like her campaign
has alienated a strong bloc of Black Democratic voters? She's VERY divisive...whether or not you care to realize it.

17. The divisiveness here is by virtue of their love of Bill Clinton and
having a fellow black man on the ticket. Cognitive Dissonance is going to be a major factor in this election whether it's Obama on the ticket or Clinton and so the divisiveness will lie within each voter, JMO.

7. Another interesting bit
Drawing a not-so-subtle parallel to contestants in the 1960 Democratic primary, Leahy said that, as a college student, he supported John F. Kennedy over Lyndon Johnson.

"Nobody doubted the great experience of Lyndon Johnson," he said. "But I never questioned my commitment."

A touching and profound statement by the good Senator from Vermont.

21. Yeah, Leahy's just a dope and you're such a genius
that you know exactly why he REALLY endorsed Obama. And why do you find his comments on the NV lawsuit telling?

15. Excellent Endorsement......
Wonder why Leahy, one of the most progressive senator in the senate would endorse a Reagan lover? Oh, that's right, Leahy is intelligent enough to understand what Obama said....unlike some who want to twist facts for personal reasons.

Leahy, the head of the Judiciary Committee is quite a statement on who he believes will make the best decision in reference to the constitution.

I could not be more pleased.

And I really wonder what Leahy sees as the strategic advantage of endorsing Obama.
