Hillary "has always had a good personal relationship with the president"
(AP) Asked to say one nice thing about President Bush, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton went one better: She named two things.

"He is someone who has a lot of charm and charisma, and I think in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, I was very grateful to him for his support for New York," Clinton said Tuesday night during a talk at the National Archives about her life in politics.

Clinton, a potential presidential candidate in 2008, said that despite their "many disagreements about many, many issues," she has always had a good personal relationship with the president.

"He's been very willing to talk. He's been affable. He's been good company," said Clinton, D-N.Y.

2. It's called 'having good manners'. See photos of ER and TDewey at formal dinners with...
their party smiles on and they HATED each other.

"If you can't be nice, act nice."

14. That is actually a kitty "quilt."
They have a little opening for catnip. I put a few on the back of the couch for when they sit there. They like them and it keeps some of the fur off the couch.

Say two things nice:

He is someone who has a lot of charm and charisma (extraneous), and I think in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, I was very grateful to him for his support for New York(1)," Clinton said Tuesday night during a talk at the National Archives about her life in politics.

Clinton, a potential presidential candidate in 2008, said that despite their "many disagreements about many, many issues," she has always had a good personal relationship (extraneous) with the president.

"He's been very willing to talk. He's been affable. (2) He's been good company (extraneous)," said Clinton, D-N.Y.

"He's been very willing to talk," except when international diplomacy was involved.

Still, I'm sure a number of people could say two nice things about Bush without trumpeting a personal relationship with him.

16. No. I meant that a lot of people seem shocked or
upset or displeased, whatever when members of two parties seem to "get along." In politics, as in business you sometimes have to "be nice" to people you don't like in order to get anything done (or try to in this case as the Dems didn't get much from Bush). Members of both parties have been doing this for eons. They "get along" even if they can't stand each other. I would like to bitch slap a few people at work sometimes...but I don't.

29. Neither of my Senators have a good relationship with the White House
and Jim Jeffords didn't either. Leahy has made it clear that he believes that bushco knows more than they'll tell about the anthrax letter sent him and cheney told him to go fuck himself. Why the hell should he keep good relations with bushie boy? Oh and Jeffords quit the repuke party because of bush.

9. There is no need to kiss Bush's ass. Why even say anything positive about him?
"Asked to say one nice thing about President Bush..." Why do they want to force these candidates to say something nice about that asshole?

Maybe she should have said something like "Well, he hasn't started WWIII yet...or destroyed the planet completely"

17. because she was trying to get federal assistance for the state of New York
(which she represents) , in the wake of 9/11.

What point is there in making the President a personal enemy in the pursuit of political goals? Especially when he's in a position to thwart those goals.

21. The article is from May 10, 2006
She didn't have to insult him but what she was saying goes way beyond "saying something nice":

Asked to say one nice thing about President Bush, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton went one better: She named two things.

I am sorry, it is like kissing Bush's ass and than thanking him for the honor.

I understand that politicians have to be diplomatic, but that doesn't require her to gush about how fantastic and wonderful he is when in actuality he is not. She could have just said "He helped New York after 9/11" ... that would have been plenty.

It doesn't matter which of the presidential candidates does the ass-kissing, it is an insult to a lot of people who are angry about what Bush and Cheney have done to this country and the world.

22. yes, it's from 2006 and she's referring to the aftermath of 9/11
Look, I'm not going to argue the point. If you think that politics works in a way where personal relationships have no bearing, then I suggest you run for office and try to get anything done once elected.

This is petty stuff, and it seems to be increasingly the only weapons at the disposal of the anti-Hillary crowd.

30. "Very willing to talk"?! "affable"?!!!! WTF? am I missing something?
am I living in another universe?

oh, and "He's been good company"?

ummm, NO, I very specifically Don't want my next president to be a person that can even be able to Endure W's presence!

wow, if this is true (which it very well might not be, obviously) then that says a lot about her judgment of character.

35. I just have to laugh and point out the hypocrisy: Obama claims to want to bring the two sides
together. And Obama DU supporters always give him a break when he does things like: have gay bashers speak on stage with him / talk up republicans while attacking Bill's presidency / talk about bringing both sides together.

But the second Clinton says something luke warm about Bush--they attack. The faux outrage and the double standards are actually kinda funny this time.
