Counterpunch engages in revisionism of Ralph Nader history in its typical fandango of lies.

Back in 2000, Bill Clinton still occupied the White House and his neoliberal agenda remained alive in the left's collective consciousness. In that context, Ralph Nader's presidential campaign easily filled stadiums across the country, as activists and left-wing celebrities alike embraced Nader's third party candidacy in a blow against both corporate parties.

Stadiums? What?! I don't recall Ralph Nader filling any stadiums, and I invite anyone who can cite any evidence of that to step forward. I am not surprised, however, because Counterpunch could easily claim a title as splinterist publication #1.

Once again, the counter punch tastes a little like the Jim Jones Flavor-Aid.

1. My ONLY hesitation in supporting Obama is that he's your guy.
So something must be wrong.

2. That is a profoundly unwise reason to make any sort of political decision.
It is also one that could get you Hillary Clinton, which I wouldn't mind that much, but you might.

3. They mean staduims as in high-school and college ...
not the monolith stadiums the NFL plays in.

They told the truth, they just left out what kind of stadiums.

4. Here is an article about an event at Madison Square Garden

back in 2000 (for example). I remember these huge Nader gatherings from back then:

Nader Rocks the Garden! 10/14/00, With Eddie Vedder, Patti Smith, Ani DiFranco, Ben Harper, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Michael Moore, and Phil Donahue, by Glyn Emmerson

Ralph Nader at Madison Square Garden, 10/14/00

Like a malignant mole on the ass of corporate America, Ralph Nader has been taking on the power elite and fighting for the underdog since the mid-sixties. Throw in a few rock idols off tour, some Hollywood dissonance, sixties idealism mixed with timely organic rhetoric, and you get Nader-fest.

"Let Ralph debate" was the battle cry of the night. Having been excluded from the corporate-sponsored presidential debates, Nader has been left in the cold to take his roots message from the grassy knoll straight to the American public.

If the sold-out crowd in attendance at the Garden was any reflection of the public electorate out there, Gore and Bush best take notice. The burnout, granola set was barely in attendance – the crowd was a nice, well-mannered, even mix of all ages.

9. StadiUM. M. Singular.
Besides, there is no telling whether or not people were there for Ralph Nader or for the performers. My father went to see Ralph Nader speak in the early seventies and left thinking that he was crazy.

5. He filled stadiums with GOP operatives.
They learned how to keep Naderites faithful to their windmills runs.

And Rove smiled.

6. I don't see the great relevance
to any modern concern, but this is a statement of fact. And they're not talking about high school or college stadiums either, as the previous poster suggested. I don't remember the exact figures, but Nader did rallies all across the US, which were drawing much larger crowds than Bush or Gore were. In particular, the one I remember hearing about was a super rally at Madison Square Garden, where Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Patti Smith, and a bunch of others performed. Not surprisingly, given the many artists performing, they were able to draw a decent sized crowd (I don't know about filling up). But again, I don't see the relevance. Nader clearly didn't have a wide base of support, apart from the truly committed who showed up at these rallies. This is certainly reflected in his vote tally. If you want to check, type Madison Square Garden, Eddie Vedder, and Ralph Nader into google. Should give you something.
