2. I consider Magic Johnson an expert on exactly two things....
....playing basketball and opening movie theaters.

Politics ain't one of 'em. But it's nice the Clintons are calling in favors.

7. He's pretty good at living well and healthily with a deadly virus, too.
He doesn't just "open movie theaters" either. He's a very savvy businessman. He makes money, he doesn't lose it. And he serves communities that are historically and unfairly underserved, and he doesn't spare the horses, either.

9. I'm still looking for where Magic Johson turns out to be a political mastermind.
Until then, this means no less to me than Roseanne's nonsenical blog ravings.

11. Let me put it this way--he's as sharp at business as, say, Oprah
and he doesn't have the advantage of being terribly skilled in television presentation.

He's probably as much of a "political mastermind" as Oprah is, too.

12. As far as I know, Oprah never slammed Hillary Clinton.
Where does Magic Johnson get off criticizing Obama for the Clinton campaign?

13. Neither did MJ slam Obama. He didn't even MENTION the guy.
I have news for you--there's MORE than TWO candidates in this race. What hubris to assume that Johnson's remarks about experience were directed ONLY at Obama!

The one who's been in public life longest, is oldest, and has the most experience, is Clinton. That's MJ's point.

14. Well, I agree with the OP--you'd have to be blind to miss the references to Obama.
Herman Munster, a noted Obama detractor, has convinced me that Magic was trotted out to try to damage Obama's (and, ok, possibly Edwards') credibility in SC.

If you disagree, take it up with Herman. He convinced me, and so I feel justified in responding--WTF does Magic Johnson know about Obama that, say, John Conyers or Pat Leahy or John Kerry doesn't?

19. Well, gee, we'll have to agree to disagree then. No name, save Clinton's, was mentioned in that ad.
And Magic has as much right as Oprah to pipe up FOR his preferred choice.

8. Obama's name is not mentioned once in that ad.
It's a faint implication, because there are more than two candidates in the fray. He's saying that HRC has the MOST experience, certainly, but he's not calling out anyone specifically. Which is smart.

10. I think Johnson should just leave politics to the professionals...
“He’s put together a great campaign. It’s clearly not a fairy tale, it’s real,” Clinton said. “He might win.”

16. Magic won the championship and was named NBA Finals MVP in his rookie year.
Fresh blood is just what the team needs right now. Get the ball in Obama's hands.

18. Magic himself was an awesome rookie
...ya know

Magic Johnson Became The First Rookie In 11 Years To Start In The NBA All Star Game And The First Rookie To Win The NBA Finals MVP. “In 77 games Johnson's numbers mirrored those of his days at Michigan State (18.0 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 7.3 apg). He became the first rookie to start in an NBA All-Star Game since Elvin Hayes 11 years earlier.” Johnson also became “the first rookie ever to win the Finals MVP Award.”

Johnson’s MVP-Winning Performance in 1980 Playoffs Game 6 Is “The Stuff of Legend,” Saved the Team From a Hometown Loss When The Star Abdul-Jabbar Was Injured. “In the 1980 NBA Finals against the Philadelphia 76ers, Johnson's performance in the series-clinching sixth game was the stuff of legend. Abdul-Jabbar was sidelined with a badly sprained ankle sustained during his 40-point effort in Game 5. Up 3-2, the Lakers could wrap things up on the 76ers' home court.

Enter Johnson, the 20-year-old rookie. Assuming Abdul-Jabbar's position at center, Johnson sky-hooked and rebounded the Lakers to victory with 42 points, 15 boards, seven assists and three steals. He even jumped for the opening tap. Johnson became the first rookie ever to win the Finals MVP Award. The stunning effort exemplified his uncanny ability to do whatever the Lakers needed in order to win. In the Los Angeles Times, Westhead said of his amazing rookie: ‘We all thought he was a movie-star player, but we found out he wears a hard hat. It's like finding a great orthopedic surgeon who can also operate a bulldozer.’”
