What the hell is going on here already?
I may get slammed for this , but I don't care anymore. I don't know about you, but I am so sick of seeing Ronald Reagan's name plastered all over DU!! Candidates made some comments and I realize people want to use it to rip each other's man/woman one way or another. But can we get over it already?

All this Raygun bullshit is starting to get creepy and brings some bad memories back to me personally. At the time, I used to think it could never get any worse during Raygun's years. I was wrong, and I won't make that mistake again!! I lost maybe the best job I ever had because of Raygun's union busting tactics, so I moved on, but I will NEVER forget. That was also the time when all these whacked out wingnuts started to come out of the closet and become popular and take over the media. Remember Limpballs, Falwell and the Moral Majority? How about Iran-Contra, Savings and Loan bailout, etc., etc.? So many WH crooks got away with so much, it reminds me of the current administration. Doesn't it?

So, if you must, go ahead and continue, but I won't be reading them anymore, not that anybody cares. I just don't think us Dems should be giving him as much attention as he is getting and does not deserve. Well, you can start flaming away, but I would like to know if anybody else feels the same way I do about this situation. I don't believe Raygun deserves our time and above all, he does not deserve ANY praise from ANY Democrat!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reagan_administration_scandals
During the presidency of Ronald Reagan in the United States, multiple scandals developed which resulted in a number of administration staffers being convicted. The most well known, the Iran-Contra affair, involved a plan whereby weapons were sold to Iran and the profits diverted to fund the Nicaraguan Contras, in violation of U.S. and international law.

A total of 225 people who served in the Reagan administration either quit, were fired, arrested, indicted, or convicted for either breaking the law or violating the Ethics Code; Edwin Meese alone, the Attorney General, was investigated by three separate Special Prosecutors.

Several other controversies also occurred in the Reagan administration; one involved Department of Housing secretary Samuel Pierce and his associates. Wealthy contributors to the administration's campaign were rewarded with funding for low income housing development without the customary background checks, and lobbyists, such as former Secretary of the Interior James G. Watt, were rewarded with huge lobbying fees for assisting campaign contributors with receiving government loans and guarantees. Six administration staffers were convicted.

Also involving the EPA: funds from the Superfund to clean up toxic waste sites were released to enhance the election prospects of local politicians aligned with the administration.

4. I think not being able to process information with an exit strategy for bad feelings
is the problem. Oh, that and partisanship that is causing people to lose their minds temporarily from time to time.

But, yeah, it is wicked stupid.

7. Amen brother! K*R

I don't care if he was or was not really "in charge," Reagan fronted for the first phase in the
tear down of this country. Seems we've got a bit too much opportunity here for the powers that
be, makes 'em uneasy. He comes along and all smiles and such, is the great charmer. But he was
unpopular until the shooting and then only popular until about 1986. He was not liked when he left
but the media crew built him up so now we have to listen to this trash. Enough already!

11. That is so true...
He is at least the enabler of all that followed, right up to this very day. I never got the charm factor either, the media had over half the nation buffaloed.

9. I can Reagan bash till the sun rises. I can Bush bash till the sun sets.
Both are evil men and I'm sorry but big mistake for any Dem candidate wanting to represent the working class and poor of this country to mention them in any form or fashion. I know that they get the point now. I believe that they are reading the posts here and are distancing or clarifying their positions. Congrats to the DUers outrage. I will never fault anyone here for speaking up and speaking their mind. As messy as it is, it's the freedom we are trying to protect against a fascist takeover. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. Burke"

13. That is exactly my point...
NO Democrat should be invoking the name of Ronald Reagan. He stood for everything we are against, from his horrible "trickle down" to union busting to secret military ops. He was the begining of the end of our Democracy, which continues today with Bush and his neocon cronies overseeing our demise. Whoever the next President is, it is unlikely he/she will be able to slow down the giant snowball Raygun got rolling.
