Elizabeth Edwards is in charge of her health and she is fine
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 05:21 PM by OzarkDem
As a breast cancer survivor with many friends living with long term chronic breast cancer, I take great umbrage with any of you with the unmitigated gall and bad manners to assume you know her medical condition or imply that Edwards campaign is somehow harming her health.

Its not. She is in good health, doing fine and has every right to do as she wishes during her illness.

How dare you assume you can tell her how to live her life or assume you know more about her health than she does?

To continue with this kind of discussion is incredibly offensive and unacceptable.

End it now.

2. Bill had a heart attack a couple of years ago.
We never hear about his health problems. The fact is that we are all susceptible to health problems. Elizabeth is entitled to live her life as she chooses, just as we all are.

3. Americans have such backward attitudes about cancer
They assume anyone who gets it is dead already. Its plainly evident in the way cancer patients are treated as second class citizens in this country.

5. They're just a bunch of bullies.
It's that simple. The MSM decided who the frontrunners were going to be and unfortunately, they win. AGAIN.

Ugh... :banghead:

Elizabeth WANTS John to stay in this race. She has said so herself.

8. And she has the right to make that choice
She doesn't need a bunch of backwards, ignorant people telling her she should go home and die.

As my medical oncologist says: "Elizabeth Edwards is fine. She can do anything she wants."

11. Perhaps a message to the mods is called for
its really no different from making racist remarks about a candidate. It shouldn't be tolerated here.

9. I'm sick of the so-called "concern" about Elizabeth's health
All of the concern trolls, of course, calling for John to bow out of the race. Yes, it's offensive and ugly, to both John and Elizabeth, as well as the many cancer survivors.

Besides, just ask John if he could, even if he wanted to, "take her home" against her wishes. I think he'd MUCH rather face the corporate lobbyists, all the Republican candidates, and the greedy corporations, in a physical fight, all at once, alone!

12. OzarkDem,Thank You!
 Like, Mrs.Edwards-- You are a wonderful and caring person! :yourock: :kick:

"Media consolidation has blocked out almost all non-corporate voices
in the discussion of public policy issues. Edwards wants less corporate control
over everyday life and has specific programs in mind to move in that direction."

14. Exploiting her health is unacceptable
This should not be an issue!!!!!!

We are not Republicans, we don't attack a person's spouse (unless it is Bill... JUST KIDDING).

I hope she recovers completely, and as soon as possible.

16. her cancer is permanent, but she can manage it and live for many many years to come .
John and Elizabeth will never do anything to jeopardize her health -- they have young kids that are the most important priority in their lives. She has a form of bone cancer that cannot be cured, but it can be managed ... it's similar to HIV not being a death sentence anymore for many people because it's managed by anti-virals (ex. Magic Johnson). It's similar to managing heart disease (like Bill Clinton). It's similar to OzarkDem'a breast cancer in remission -- she's fine now but remains vigilant since she has a higher rate of recurrence than most people. It's similar to my managing my blood coagulation disorder so I don't get a stroke, pulmonary embolism, or heart attack from a blood clot. Many diseases can be managed. Most of the time, cancer isn't necessarily a death sentence anymore.

Modern medicine is marvelous, if you can afford health insurance.

17. The implication that Elizabeth can't make her own decisions or is some kind of invalid
is highly offensive. She is choosing to life her life according to what she believes...whether she has a lot of time left or not. I have a feeling she would tell you that if she lived to be 100, it wouldn't be worth it unless she lived in accordance with her values.

She's an adult, and she is capable of making her own decisions. The way she has been characterized as this poor dying invalid is just disgusting.

She inspires me. No matter what happens, she and John will be important influences in my political and social conscience.
