Obama's engaging of Bill will be fascinating to watch.
Obama says he's from Chicago, which is certainly true. However, Politics in Chicago begins and ends with the Daleys. And they're on the Clintons' side.

If you don't believe me, consider where Bill's renominating convention was (Chicago). Also, consider that Bill Daley served in Bill's cabinet. And much of the power structure (including my alderman) are inexplicably backing Hillary and touting her Chicago roots. Forgetting, of course, that she lives in and represents New York. But no matter, when it comes to the Daleys, their loyalty is clear.

Many pols here tie themselves to Daley and the machine, and count on its support to get them what they need to win reelection. It's a chummy club. But Obama isn't clearly in it.

So engaging Bill is like taking on the Daleys and all of their associates. And I sure hope that he can pull it off.

1. Obama isn't Daley, and I think it's pathetic that Bill has inserted
himself into this campaign to the degree he has. I wish he'd just chill out and go away. If his wife can't win on her own, she doesn't deserve to.

8. If Bill Clinton inserts himself as he is doing in the campaign then he becomes target
and if she get the nomination, I can see the repuke as now blaring on the tele with him testifying under oath, "I never had sex with that woman", followed by an announcers voice, "can we really trust anything that comes out of the Clintons?"

It might not be fair or right, but it will happen since HE IS NOW identified as part of Hillary's campaign, and most likely administration if she is nominated, which will then result in a distraction from the real issues, just as the swift boating of Kerry

I guess if that becomes an issue, they could always back shelf Bill, but I think the damage will have been done by then

12. Very good point; the Clintons have opened the door for this.
I really do wonder at times who's giving them advice.

13. I am not a Clinton supporter, so what do I know, but I think it would be
more prudent to have Bill Clinton working in the background of their campaign, however, I cannot see Bill Clinton accepting that roll

5. Hillary Clinton is also from Chicago.
What the differences in the campaigns are regarding spouses, is that Elizabeth Edwards and Michelle Obama are classy supporters of their spouses - keeping their comments to the support of their husbands. They are not bashing the other candidates. Bill Clinton is bashing Obama but not Edwards. I think it is up to the candidates to paint their differences with the other candidates - and not the spouse's candidates to do so. The candidates are the ones who have to represent themselves - not their spouses. Otherwise, will Hillary take Bill with her where ever shes goes as President to help her define herself?

6. We've got serious problems, and we need serious people
and if you want to talk about race, Barack, you'd better come at me with more than a "fairy tale and a distortion of your positions. If you want to talk about character and American values, fine. Just tell me where and when, and I'll show up. This is a time for serious people, Barack, and your fifteen minutes are up. My name is William Jefferson Clinton, and I *was the American President.

Maybe Bill could say something like this if obama really wants to go after WJC. But I would buy a pay per view ticket.uh huh and see WJC hand BHO his ass.....

7. You keep forgetting; Bill isn't running. And I find it odd that not once
in this little 'tribute' did you mention Hillary. THAT is the problem.

14. Absolutely
maybe less so during the primaries, but during the GE this could cause major havoc.

20. those who 'side' with "Bill" simply because he is "Bill" and not
because he is innocent of any wrong doing aren't going to care about anything other than how "Bill" does at doing what they desire.

Bill Clinton did a good job as president, in my opinion. He did a very good job of fund raising with Bush sr.

He has dissapointed and disillusioned me in his role as a spouse of a candidate for president, and I am hopeful I will not have to find out how he would perform as "first man" if his behaviour so far, is any indication.

peace~
