Atlanta mayor takes political shot at Bill Clinton
During the MLK service, Franklin addresses Clinton's reference to Barack Obama's rise as a 'fairy tale'

With former President Bill Clinton standing not 20 feet in front of her, Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin took what appeared to be a political shot at the former president's comments about Barack Obama's candidacy.

Speaking at the 40th annual MLK commemorative service at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Franklin said the country is on the "cusp of turning impossible into reality. Yes this is reality, not fantasy or fairy tales."

Clinton, in supporting his wife Hillary's bid for the Democratic nomination, recently took heat for referring to Obama's dramatic rise as a "fairy tale."

Franklin has endorsed Obama, who spoke from the same pulpit at Ebenezer on Sunday.

Today, after Franklin's remarks, the crowd of more than 2000 rose to its feet —except for Bill Clinton, who sat in his front pew seat and clapped politely.

Five seats to Clinton's left sat another former Arkansas governor, Republican Mike Huckabee, also seeking his party's nomination as president. He stood at the end of Franklin's remarks.

Earlier in her address, Franklin said the country was nearing a historic occasion when it could elect as president, "a former first lady, a Mormon, a Baptist preacher, and yes, a black man."

The first lady is Hillary Clinton, the Mormon is Mitt Romney, the Baptist preacher is Huckabee, and Obama is African-American.

ITS ON!

1. Clinton NEVER "referred to Obama's dramatic rise as a "fairy tale."
He was talking about the media's portrayal of Obama's so-called anti-Iraq War record.

has been twisted around so much.

23. because Bill's actual quote was, "This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I have ever seen."
You can see how some might take it to be referring to more than just Obama's Iraq stance.
It depends on what the definition of "this whole thing" is.

31. It depends on if you ignore the 3-4 sentences before that. If you do, you're an ObamaBot.
And have earned a merit badge of somekind, probably in the shape of a swift boat..
The whole thing:
--
"It is wrong that Senator Obama got to go through 15 debates trumpeting his superior judgment and how he had been against the war," Clinton said during the rally.
"There's no difference in your voting record, and Hillary's, ever since," Clinton said. "Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen."

50. just like Bill intentionally ignores the context of Obama's statements regarding Iraq
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 12:57 PM by JackORoses
He talks about how Obama said that he didn't know how he would have voted if he had been in the Senate in 2003.
But Bill drops the part where Obama said, "But from where I stood, the case was not made."

Bill is intentionally misrepresenting what Obama said.
Some would call that lying.

Bill is Hillary's Swift Boat Captain.

27. are Clinton supporters going to dismiss everyone who despises the
Clintons as "rightwingers" & "freepers"? It's almost silly at this point. You guys have argued that BC's fairytale comments have been taken out of context. On the other hand, you guys are the worst offenders at spreading falsehoods about what Obama has said. e.g. his Reagan comments. Such rank hypocrisy.

2. Franklin is a fantastic speaker
And she has already endorsed Obama. It makes sense that she used her platform this morning to do her part for his campaign.

President Clinton is speaking now, and was greeted by a standing ovation. He acknowledged Mayor Franklin's comments, and now he's doing what he does best. Making everyone feel included by the power of his voice.

21. Obama uses sneak attacks:
http://www.npr.org/about/press/2007/101207.obama.html

"I can't expect to be getting every single endorsement, given the eight years of a Clinton presidency and the long-time relationships that he has established with leaders all across the country and the favors that he's done for political players all across the country."

He dismisses John Lewis's endorsement of Clinton as being merely a political favor.
