1. Well, she's the sitting Senator, too. All Politics is Local.
I'd expect Sen. Obama to do well in IL, too.

4. this is in response to the misleading Obama is four points behind Hillary
thread I saw earlier. I thought a bit more clarity was in order.

3. This is great news for Obama.
The fact that he's got her under 50% in her "home state" is really an opportunity.

5. not quite
but nice try. He's still going to lose this delegate-rich State on Super Tuesday. In fact, the only one I see him winning outright is his home State of Illinois!

9. Hillary should be close to 70% in NY
She has won both elections with over 60% of the vote. The fact that she's polling under 50 is huge. Add to that, that Hillary will probably lose many inner city districts, it's not going to be quite the blowout you think.

11. where are you getting the info
she'll lose many inner city districts? she hasn't before and they actually like who she is and what she's been doing for them, so ...

wishful thinking perhaps?

Especially with the Raygun good, Clinton bad shit storm.

31. NY awards delegates by congressional district
he can pick up a lot of delegates in NYC and other cities in New York State even if he loses the state overall.

As far as I can see, the last poll done was over 2 months ago and he was polling at 59% with Clinton at 25%.

10. yes, it is
but an Obama Supporter had an earlier thread with the headline "Marist Poll: Obama Four Points Behind Hillary in NY" (or something like that) and I thought DUers deserved something a bit more honest than that.

22. Ah. Right on then.
I'm an Obama supporter myself, but I'm a fairness and honesty supporter first. It's silly to say Obama's even close to Hillary in New York.

17. I doubt Obama has time to campaign here
Upstate NY and the suburbs will likely go for Hillary too.

If he had time and money to spend here canvassing the state, he could take upstate NY, and either Nassau or Suffolk, probably Nassau.

26. what's even more fascinating about her support Upstate
is that they were VERY supportive of Alfonse D'Amato, the ex-Senator and #1 Thorn In Clinton's Side back before Schumer replaced him. She went door-to-door and literally had to reintroduce herself as she is and not the caricature they expected her to be. The people Upstate are not easily won over and certainly not fooled, and they genuinely like her, her work ethic and the fact that she's intelligent and keeps her campaign promises. If she says something will get done, it gets done. They appreciate that.

No way in hell they're going to fall for Obama's Song and Dance in Upstate, so it's no surprise he has no plans to campaign there.

so some of the upstaters voted for Schumer but not for Hillary.

29. NYC v. Upstate
Who’s supporting whom? The New York State Democratic Primary is most competitive in New York City where about half of the state’s Democratic voters reside. Clinton receives support from 43% of likely Democratic voters in New York City compared with 39% for Obama. Clinton outdistances Obama upstate 59% to 22%, and she has an 18 percentage point lead in the suburbs which surround New York City. Barack Obama leads among African Americans likely to vote on primary day. African American voters historically comprise between one-fifth and one-quarter of the state’s Democratic primary vote. He is very competitive among younger Democrats. He receives 47% among likely Democrats who are under 45 years of age compared with 43% for Clinton. *Among Democrats likely to vote who are 45 years of age or older, Clinton leads Obama 50% to 27%.

27. No surprise to me
That Obama narrows the gap in NYC. The latte liberal group in Democratic NYC, are less inclined to be Progressive , than they are Conservatives in Democratic cloth. They have almost zero social empathy and care only about their portfolios.

I could certainly belong to that group, and given my income, would profit from it; however, call me old-fashioned, but I believe in good ole Lefty left Progressives and placing social issues above all else.

Hillary will win New York and much more.

That too is a shame for the Progressive arm of the Party, to which I belong. I'm sick enough of Conservatives, even sicker of "moderates", who don't have the courage of any conviction.
