I'm still laughing about this one and saying to myself. Clinton doesn't think sometimes.

But let me remind Bill Clinton' detractors that many times these events boost, instead of hurt, the way Americans see a public figure.

If receiving a BJ from a girl other than his wife had Clinton with a 60+ approval rating, don't expect nodding off during today's event to hurt him much either.

1. I agree. And talking like an idiot helped Bush connect with many voters too. nt

3. Why should it hurt him? It means nothing -- it could happen to any of us, and
HAS happened to me. It's a non-issue.

5. Well, Bob Novak might argue Clinton doesn't care about MLK
and black people in general.
Or Maureen Dowd.

9. Yes they might -- but any one will KNOW that's ridiculous -- although that
won't stop the anti-Clintons or Reps from it becoming a war cry.

I think this has probably happened to EVERYBODY at one time or another, don't you?

10. The hypocrisy here kills me - What if it had been BUSH?
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 06:53 PM by democrat2thecore
Imagine if it had been *Bush* at a MLK event and HE nodded off. Imagine. Everyone here would be saying it was because it was a King event. "That wouldn't have happened at a fill-in-the-blank event!!" I can read it all now. Anybody getting caught writing "It could happen to anybody, it's a non-issue," would be driven out of DU without mercy. We ALL know that.

Clinton, trying to patch up relations in the black community falling asleep during this event? WHAT was he thinking? When that starts happening, you change your posture, lean forward, begin actively listening and the nodding off ends. Giving a pass to Bill Clinton because it's Bill Clinton is rank hypocrisy. Imagine if it had even been Michelle Obama!!!

11. Bush has a history of not caring about black people
Clinton doesn't. This is why he got huge support from African Americans during the 90's.

4. I'll bet Big Dog did it on purpose!
It's obviously a calculated move to appear on clips on the Tonight Show and Letterman.

13. no, i'm just stating what I believe to be the cause of his popularity after that
I think his poll numbers really spiked during impeachment, not necessarily after the news broke that he had an affair.
