Kucinich Can't Get Elected 'cause He Looks Like a Doofus! Not.
I don't think Kucinich looks like a doofus. I don't know what a doofus looks like. I think it's one of those subjective slights that someone uses to dismiss someone when all else fails.

I think Kucinich looks like a healthy, intelligent, kindly, wiry, careworn son of a Croat truckdriver and an Irish mother who lived in 21 places including a couple of cars before he was 17 years old, who saved Cleveland's public power utility as the youngest Mayor ever elected to head a major U.S. city. I also think Kucinich looks like the only one running for the nomination who's not running for himself, but for the change he thinks he can affect.

When I look at Kucinich or hear him speak, I see and hear someone who has a fiscally responsible plan to bring universal single-payer health care to the last industrialized holdout nation without it, while lowering the average amount that employers contribute to the system.

When I look at Kucinich or hear him speak, I see and hear someone who's taken a principled stand against the fiscally irresponsible and racist and archaic death penalty.

When I look at Kucinich or hear him speak, I see and hear someone who has a fiscally responsible plan to make the Pentagon accountable to the taxpayers, ensuring our safety by mandating that the Pentagon account for how it spends the taxpayer dollar.

When I look at Kucinich or hear him speak, I see and hear someone who doesn't eat meat, but who understands that family farmers working within their community make the best guarantees that healthy prion-free feed goes into beef cattle.

When I look at Kucinich or hear him speak, I see and hear someone who wasn't "fooled" by Bush's b.s. about "working with the UN" and who believes, as I do, that the unprovoked invasion of Iraq was ill-conceived, wasteful, perhaps illegal, and that the continued privatization of Iraq by U.S. war pirates represents the most despicable and darkest side of having our government illegitimately run by corporate corrupt fascists, and that we should get out and give up our plan to privatize Iraq away from the Iraqis.

When I look at Kucinich or hear him speak, I see and hear someone who has dedicated a career spanning 30 years in politics toward fighting for the regular people the Democratic Party is supposed to stand for, and in that way fighting to make the Democratic Party a viable *second* or *opposition* party.

If that's what a doofus looks like, then I want a doofus for President.

I'm sick of Democrats who just say "spend" and don't say where the money's coming from.

I'm sick of Democrats who will give the Pentagon more money for failing a "star wars" test, but who'll take money away from a school that fails a "standards" test.

I'm sick of Democrats who say that they'll "fix" NAFTA when the WTO forbids it.

I'm sick of Democrats who reject universal single-payer health care, even though it would cost less and cover everyone, and every other industrialized nation already has it.

I'm sick of Democrats who voted for Bush's disastrous "end-around" the Constitution by choosing an unprovoked invasion of Iraq but not calling it a "war," then claiming they were "fooled" by Bush's motives.

If the Democrats decide they want candidates who are "doofuses" on the issues, but who "sure look sharp" then they're choosing to reject me and people like me.

Fear Ends
Hope Begins

1. I think he's cute
And since the content of one's character is what's really important to me, not one's appearance, he's actually quite HOT, in my book. :)

To me, it's the equivocating, bush-lie-backing candidates who are doofuses. Worse than that, they're bush's enablers. :(

5. DK looks like he could play an extra in a...
Lord of the Rings or Star Trek movie--and he wouldn't even need any prosthetics or makeup.

WTBS, I like his politics. At least he doesn't look like a chimp:

or have a long face like Seabiscuit or JFKerry.

9. In other words
Agree or not he deserves nothing less than our respect for the reasons you stated. He is and has been in this for us and has not made himself personally wealthy on our backs while doing it. I can deal with marginalization because I know where it comes from and I can most certainly deal with policy disagreements but the disrespect from other Democrats just shows me how little evolved we really are. He is most certainly not a doofus because of lack of intelligence and as far as his looks, well he looks like many of us. I was personally taken by his eyes and his wonderful, sincere smile. Those are often the mark of a person with kindness in their heart.

13. Words and passion
are what give Dennis his looks! I admit at first he had more of the bookish/nerdy appearance. But the more he speaks, the more appealing he has become. It's that passion and truth shining through that definitely makes him anything but a "doofus"!

I decided to support him sight unseen, based on his policies. After reading up on him and reading some of his speeches, when I finally saw a picture, and that terrifically genuine smile, I must admit I was smitten. :)

18. WELCOME to DU!
Speaking as a "doofus" myself, I see nothing wrong with Kucinich's looks. He reminds me a lot of the men on my dad's side of the family. My dad's family is Bohemian, Scottish and English, short, swarthy, and tend to grow beer bellies in their 30s. They are also plain-spoken, salt-of-the-earth people who somehow managed to eke out a living on a rock-filled farm in an area of the country that has a four-month growing season.

Maybe if we spent more time listening to "doofuses" like DK, we'd be in a hell of a lot better shape than we are now.

Here's me and the doofus.

and welcome to DU!

19. I know someone who won't vote for Kucinich because
He is a Vegan..I think that is something to be proud of..American's they are hopeless...Suspects animal rights people will take away their pets or some silly thing !.... I supect Kucinich,if he had the time would really appreciate a warm fuzzy animal..
I would let him take care of our cat,if he had the time.
Unfortunately, so many American's think that way..They want Rock Hudson for President.. See where looks will get you!

28. A doofus looks like W!
(It is also confirmed when W opens his mouth that he's a DOOFUS!)

I wish daily for an intelligent person, such as DK in the White House. I really don't understand where this BS came from that Kucinich is not presidential material, or why some members of the media continually shit on him, insinuating that he is not serious about the presidency.

On my drive out through Ohio this week, I think I shall put my Kucinich sticker in the window. I am supporting DK until the nomination is decided.
