Edwards and Clinton have a "20 minute talk behind closed doors in Edwards' green room" after debate
Offstage Action at Dem. Debate?

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/01/22/offstage_action_at_dem_debate.html

By Shailagh Murray

The nasty spat between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama last night sure created fireworks, but after the debate attention turned to an offstage encounter, between Clinton and former senator John Edwards.

According to eyewitnesses, they both walked out of their green rooms after the debate and agreed to talk, then went behind closed doors in Edwards's green room.

Clinton left 20 minutes later. No word on the subject matter, but as Edwards struggles in the polls with no wins to date, his post-campaign strategy is surely in the air.

"They were catching up, as they tend to do at the events, and probably discussing the evenhanded media coverage of the race," quipped Edwards spokesman Eric Schultz.

1. Wouldn't be the first time those two conspired after a debate.

2. May be nothing. May be something. There's no third choice.
That's pretty much it, you know? They either talked about the weather, or they talked about how to keep Obama out of the White House. I don;t think there's a hell of a lot of middle ground.

6. I'm guessing they're negotiating
an Edwards endorsement (or at least non-endorsement of Obama) in exchange for an Atty General nod.

9. I can't see any scenario in which Edwards endorses Obama.
So it comes down to two possibilities: If he's backed into the "endorsement corner," he declines to endorse any candidate, or he endorses Hillary.

That's just my gut instinct talking. I could be wrong. I don't think I am.

I'd still like to see Edwards as our next President, but it's a 3-way race at the moment, so if it comes down to Hillary or Obama, I've made my prediction.

15. I would prefer that Edwards becomes President. But, as the A.G.
, he would return that department to the honorable status it has enjoyed in former years.

8. Exactly...he's my second choice and
if he does that then all the defending I've done for Edwards meant nothing cause he really didn't have an epiphany afterall.

I'm totally reserving any further thoughts on this until we find out one way or another.

7. Hillary was likely obtaining reassurances that Edwards could conitinue his campaign
She needs him to stay in and split the anti-Hillary vote on Feb. 5th.

Think back to Bill's win in the GE in 1992, how did he become President while not getting a majority vote?

Same game.

13. Clinton WON the '92 GE, with the help of Ross Perot
Ross Perot splint the republicon votes. I'm not so sure Clinton would've won without Perot.

12. An Edwards staffer said it happens all the time. And that its usually Obama and Edwards chatting
Doesn't mean there isn't any "there" there...but it's not an uncommon occurrence.
