Poll question: If Obama wins the nomination, Do you think Bill should offer to Campaign for Obama?
Should he put aside his differences and do what is good for the party and publicly support Obama?

1. Yes, and I'm pretty certain that he would.
Animosity in the primaries is nothing new. The final goal of the election cycle is to get a Democrat in the White House and shore up Congress.

2. Id expect him too, Hillary can stay on the sidelines. Got no problem with that
But I think as an ex-President, he has a responsibility to the party. That is part of the reason Ive had a problem with his attacks on Obama.

5. Former presidents endorsing candidates and campaigning for them isn't new.
Carter endorsed Gore in 2000 and campaigned for him, for example.

Outside of the spouse issue, I'm not sure how that's any different.

3. Bill and Hillary would both do what is necessary for the Dem nominee.
This bickering is so typical of primaries. Once a nominee is named, it all stops and everyone unites to make sure a Dem sits in the Oval Office. That is why I prefer to stay out of the fray and keep my preferences to myself. All of these harsh words on DU in defense of candidates is a big waste of time and energy. We are all supposed to be on the same team. I just want a Dem in the White House, no matter what. I could really care less who it is. We have a lot riding on it, such as Supreme Court Justice nominees in the future.

6. Hell NO!
Bill Clinton is taking plenty of abuse from this junior senator of 24 months! Let Obama earn the Presidenct just like Bill Clinton.

I think he should. I think he could help shore up Congress.
This election cycle isn't just about the presidency, of course. We need to give the incoming president the advantage of larger majorities in Congress if we hope to pursue a more progressive agenda.

I think that Bill's ability to fundraise and campaign would help accomplish that.

7. Not a matter of "should." He WILL. As will Hillary.
And, I expect, Edwards, and Kucinich, and Richardson, and Dodd, and Biden.

Or don't you get the meaning of "democratic process"?

9. The True Believer Shillbots will answer "no".
The real Democrats will answer "yes".

11. You might be surprised.
From what I've seen, Hillary supporters generally have indicated that they'll vote for Obama should he win the nomination. There's little reason to think that they won't expect the Clintons to support him as well.

The end goal is a Democrat in the White House and larger majorities in Congress. Most Democrats would agree.

By the way, 80% of "liberal Democrats" and 81% of Democrats in general have a favorable opinion of Hillary, according to a Gallup poll. Declaring that Hillary supporters are not "real" Democrats is misguided, at best.

14. There's a difference...
Between Shillbots who continually post lies, false smears and innuendo about Obama, and people who genuinely support Hillary Clinton.

At DU within the past two weeks, the posters I would call "Shillbots" alleged the following about Obama:

-Obama was a crack dealer.

-Obama has Mafia connections.

-Obama is like Bush and Hitler.

-Obama snorted coke and had oral sex with another man 10 years ago.

Look through GD: P, at today's locked posts. You'll notice a select few Hillary supporters keep kicking and creating these bullshit threads about Obama, willing to say anything about the man to bring him down. It's the same people, over and over. There are about 5 or 6 of them who are the most offensive.

"The end goal is a Democrat in the White House and larger majorities in Congress. Most Democrats would agree."

Yes, I agree and most Democrats do too. If Hillary's the nominee I will vote for her and work for her campaign.

But I'm convinced a lot of Shillbots aren't really Democrats, because they spew too much filth and vitriol against Obama. For whatever reason, whether it's racism, a paycheck or God knows what else, they hate Obama and take their hatred out here.

"By the way, 80% of "liberal Democrats" and 81% of Democrats in general have a favorable opinion of Hillary, according to a Gallup poll."

That's nice. It doesn't mean they all support her.

"Declaring that Hillary supporters are not "real" Democrats is misguided, at best."

I said nothing of the kind and I don't appreciate having words put in my mouth.

You seem reasonable, so let me explain that only the Shillbots I was referring to are not real Democrats. I've encountered plenty of Hillary supporters, both IRL and at DU, who are reasonable people and will vote for Obama if he's nominated.

But the garbage spewed here recently against Obama is so awful that even Hillary supporters and our moderators are now trying to put a stop to it.
