Obama's SC campaign sets up 'Truth Squad' to counter criticism
The Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. --
White House hopeful Barack Obama's South Carolina campaign formed a "Truth Squad" Tuesday to counter criticism from rival Hillary Rodham Clinton's camp.

Republican John McCain employed the same tactic a couple of weeks ago en route to his primary win here. Former state Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian said it's a move ripped from Bill Clinton's 1992 playbook.

Back then, Harpootlian was an avid Clinton fan. Now, he's backing Obama and said he's upset with the former president and the New York senator's statements about Obama. Harpootlian said his first task was to debunk Bill Clinton's assertion that there's no difference between the stances Sen. Clinton and Obama took on the Iraq War.

"To say there is not a dime's worth of difference simply does not square with the record or the truth," Harpootlian said. "We don't need to elect a president who will say or do anything to win. We have one of those right now."

Clinton campaign spokesman Zac Wright said the Obama campaign is "clearly frustrated" with some early primary losses. "Sen. Obama's talk doesn't always match his actions, and I can understand why they are frustrated trying to defend that," Wright said in a statement.

Harpootlian's sharp tongue won't be alone in a group that includes former Education Superintendent Inez Tenenbaum and state Rep. Bakari Sellers.

7. A truth squad is set up for Obama
to counteract the lies from the clintons.

Obama tells the truth..it's the clintons who have been smearing and jeering Obama with their lies promting Senator Edward Kennedy to call bill clinton on it.

It's really disgraceful and pathetic the way the clintons are bringing the national discourse down in the gutter.

3. Good idea - now Barack should take the high road again...
As Jesse Jackson (a supporter) said today ~ let a surrogate take Bill Clinton on and stay with the message.

6. Shouldn't it be called...
the Lie Squad?

It goes like this: someone offers intelligent criticism of one of Obama's policies, and Obama's people immediately start spreading lies, smears, and innuendo about the person who presumed to say something even slightly negative about their campaign.

Paul Krugman is the most prominent example. Krugman pointed out some problems with Obama's plans, and rather than offer a reasoned response to Krugman's criticism, Obama just published falsehoods about Krugman. Obama went on a personal attack immediately, suggesting that Krugman had been dishonest. Krugman hadn't been dishonest. He hadn't been inconsistent.

A genuine Truth Squad would be morally obliged to surround Barack Obama and his staff and his followers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

10. I think more are than are saying, actually.. and I think the hesitancy is that they're
afraid HRC will get the nomination and then go straight for revenge against those who spoke out against her.
