Reacting to widespread frustration with an often chaotic Nevada caucus, a leading state lawmaker said today she will pursue legislation to return the state to a presidential primary election.
Senate Minority Leader Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, said she will submit the bill draft request today.
“This notion of neighbors getting together with neighbors to talk about politics, that’s just not Nevada,” she said. “What I found in my caucus is that the meeting didn’t lead to collaboration, cooperation and a good discussion. It led to hostility.
“It’s too complicated. If you had to work, or if you were Jewish it was the Sabbath, or a senior, you couldn’t go.”
In the days following Nevada’s first early caucus, both political parties are celebrating what they call the resounding success of turnout that nearly tripled any previous expectations. Being one of the earliest presidential nominating contests in the nation, Nevada attracted historically unrivaled attention from presidential candidates and the national media.
