I still can't believe anyone thought Hucky could get the repuke nomination
The Huckster is done. And he never, ever had a chance. He was the repuke "pet rock" for less than a month, and many here actually feared him. At one point, I must admit, I thought he might get the vp spot, but that changed swiftly when the dirt about him started flowing.

Now he's cutting way back in his FL campaigning. His top campaign advisors are working with no pay. He didn't get any significant boost from his win in Iowa. He couldn't even win what may be the most fundy state of all, SC.

Huckabee has little to no chance of winning FL, and no chance at all if he doesn't win it. Sure, he can stay in through 2/5, but go get that fork and stick it in. He's done.

Huckabee Scales Back Florida Campaign
Ft. Myers

TAMPA - Plagued by an empty bank account, GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee has cut back his Florida schedule to a bare minimum and may be aiming his campaign at Super Tuesday on Feb. 5 rather than the Sunshine State on Jan. 29.

Nevertheless, his supporters hope for a boost from former supporters of Fred Thompson, who announced Tuesday he's leaving the race.

1. He'll see gains from Fred's departure...
Dumbasses in the South that vote base on accent.

2. I doubt it and so does a senior Thompson advisor
I heard on NPR yesterday: He believes the bulk of Thompson's small cadre of supporters will go to Romney.

5. I'm talking about Southerners here...
No way Repubs in my neck of the woods would vote for a "Yankee".

Yes, they are that goddamn stupid.

Not to mention the evangelical factor around here. Mormons are openly treated like shit.

<MORMON STUDENT LOSES AWARD; CHRISTIAN GROUPS SAYS THAT
LDS IS REALLY POLYTHEISTIC

Despite all the trendy talk abour religious ecumenism and the positive
role religious ideology plays, there's still plenty of infighting over who's
"god" happens to top all others. The latest victim in the squabble is a
Franklin, Tennessee high school athlete named Aaron Walker, who was named as
his high school's Male Christian Athlete of the Year.
But now, the organization which hands out the honor is refusing to
recognize the 18-year old graduating senior at its annual banquet.
Walker is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a nationwide
evangelical organization with over 5,000 chapters called "huddles" in high
schools throughout the country. The group describes itself as
interdenominational, and insists that its focus "has always been on the
person of Jesus Christ and not on traditions or denominational labels." Even
so, FCA now refused to recognize Walker's achievement because he is a member
of the Mormon (LDS) Church.
A spokesman for FCA told the news media "We believe there is one God,
eternally existent in three persons, whereas the teachings of the church
(sic) of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints believe in a polytheistic view in
which there are many gods.".

3. He seems unlikely
to pick up all three of the republicans who supported Old Fred.

At this point, it seems to come down to McCain and Romney. I think any of the democrats would beat either one, though I would prefer to see Mitt be their nominee.

4. I just wanted him to last longer. McCain has amazing teflon and I want GOP solidarity in the toilet
McCain's role as media darling will help the GOP in marketing him as representative of all party factions, and I deeply hoped the fundies would revolt once Huckabee lasted long enough to undermine their trust of other candidates.

6. He was never anything but the proverbial flash in the pan
I agree about McCain; we just have to hope that Mitwit stops him in his tracks in FL. If he can't stop him there, I'm not sure it can be done. However, I don't see McCain as getting the fundies out in November, which is kind of curious when you stop to think about it for a moment: After all, fundies number 1 issue is abortion, and McCain has always been staunchly anti-abortion.

10. vote for McCain and buy BocaJava Coffee (and have your credit card info spilled across the world)
Rush delivers them and the advertisers just RAPE them. And, they are toooooo stupid to catch on. The folks at BocaJava laugh at them as they take their money for mediocre coffee. The game is that most mid-westerner Republicans don't know what good coffee is. Some customers are one shots but the true ditto head keeps coming back.

12. I feared it - as his followers were as energetic as some on the other side
Glad I was wrong. Theocracy is the last thing I want to see again. From either party.

13. Huckster had the GOP establishment dead set against him
The money's dried up, the fundamentalist leaders in bed with the GOP have been making calls and the fix is in.

He'll get votes but not the nomination which is not a bad thing for the Democrats. Now if Romney or Rudy can just knock off McCain...
