Obama leads Clinton in South Carolina: poll

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama holds a double-digit lead on rival Hillary Clinton three days before South Carolina's presidential primary, aided by a huge edge among black voters, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

Obama leads Clinton 43 percent to 25 percent in the rolling tracking poll, with John Edwards a distant third at 15 percent heading into Saturday's contest. The poll has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

There are some factors you should also consider.

94,000 independents did not vote in the SC primary who did bot in the last contested GOP primary. They are likely to vote for Obama as opposed to Clinton. They are also nearly all white.

Black turnout could hit record turnouts.

There is still 17% undecided. They are also almost certainly non-AA. Late deciders nearly always break decisively for the fresh face.

These factors all combine to suggest that Obama will break 50% and his Non-AA will probably be equal to Edwards.

2. Go Barack! Go Johnny! Another third place finish from Hillary would be dandy.
“Yesterday alone, Obama led with 39% with Clinton 22% and Edwards at 18%. One day does not make a trend, but the potential is there showing that Edwards may have scored some points in the Monday CNN debate and in his campaigning. Over the three days of polling, he is clearly splitting the white vote with Clinton."

6. Yesterday, Obama led with 39% with Clinton 22% and Edwards at 18%.
Read it again. This is overall, not the white vote. Yesterday, Edwards was only four points back of...her.

The only reason Obama is way ahead in SC, is the huge black vote, you know it and so do the rest of us

and by the way, that poll total adds up to only 83%, what happened to the other 17%.

12. What are you talking about?
You said Edwards was only getting 18% of the white vote which is not true.

Why dismiss the support Obama has as mostly from African-American voters anyway? Are we all not allowed to have a voice?

The 17% is not sure or someone else. Click on the link. :eyes:

I am a man...I guess she'll never be my president.

3. I'm not worried about Sc at all, but Florida thats going to crimp

Obama's victory and make it very short lived and very small when Hillary takes Florida with a massive margin, and yes before you say it, FLORIDA DOES MATTER in a big way.

11. I'm confused

If, 50% of the total SC voters is AA and Obama's on 43% does that mean his entire vote there is an AA vote.

17. Well
If you had any maths ability you could work it out.

Obama has 80% of the black vote apparently according to this poll, so thats 40% of 50% total AA vote. So his other 3 percent comes from? So if he's at 43% and has 40% already with the AA vote, that tells me, his entire vote in SC is AA voters.

Its not hard to work out.

20. Most of the polling shows that he is drawing about 70% of the AA vote
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 07:54 AM by Perky
But that does not mean that 50% of the voters will be AAs.

25. It is well documented that independents will not for for Clinton. They will break for
Obama and maybe to a lesser extent, Edwards. And if Hillary is running for the dems in the general and mccain is the repub nom, they will break for McCain or Nader if he throws his hat in as some expect he will if Hillary is the nom.

Bloomberg may very well enter to if Hillary wins the primary.

24. You are sounding awfully close to making racist remarks.
You are insinuating that white people don't support obama? I believe that this entire election cycle has proven that idea flat out wrong. The contests that Clinton has one have only been by very slim margins in predominantly white states, and that was with Richardson and Edwards still pulling votes.

I have seen numerous polls. Once Edwards drops, his votes will not go to Clinton by any margin. As the lead is slim to none for Hillary, it could certainly turn the tide in close races.

Remember, after SC, if Obama wins and I never count my chickens, they will be tied 2 to 2.

Bill is not helping her by the way. Get off of DU and get out in the public. He is reminding people daily of the bad side of the Clintons. He should have just tried to stay presidential instead of acting like a rabid attack dog. While this type of behavior is beneath the station of a former president, it is becoming more obvious that acting in this manner is very much part of Clinton's personality. It will be a detriment to her and to the party if he continues.

Think about what you say, before you say it. A lesson you could learn and a lesson your candidate and her husband should learn. Words have meaning.
