Republicans fear Obama
In my opinion, an Obama/Edwards ticket would be the best combination in a GENERAL election....And that's what the primaries should be about, selecting someone who will fair best in the GE...

Excerpt:

"Columbia, South Carolina — I went to Barack Obama’s rally here, on Sunday night, with a Republican friend who had never seen the Illinois senator in action before. Watching the crowd of more than 3,000 fill up the convention center, watching the people send up waves of energy to Obama, and watching him play off that energy in a speech that was one of the best political performances anyone has seen this year, my Republican friend said, simply, “Oh, s—t.” He recalled the scene from Jaws, in which the small seaside town’s sheriff realizes how big the shark he’s tracking truly is, and says, “We’re gonna need a bigger boat.” What my friend didn’t have to say was that he was deeply worried that Republicans just don’t have a bigger boat"

South Carolina is the first state in which African Americans, a huge part of the Democratic constituency, will have a chance to vote in big numbers, and they are likely to give Obama his first win since Iowa. After that, who knows? Watching Obama perform at the convention center Sunday night, it’s easy to understand why Bill Clinton is walking around with a look of red-faced frustration these days. Obama represents a mortal threat to his wife’s candidacy, and, given the identity politics that prevail in the Democratic Party, it will be hard to cut his legs out from under him without appearing racist. But there’s no doubt that some Republicans are hoping the Clintons will succeed. Running against the man on stage at the convention center would be a hard, hard campaign, requiring a very big boat".

1. The republicans are basket cases
They are all running as Bush clones and warmongers. They are toast no matter what.

13. I hope you right, the Republicans shoudn't have a shot
given what the hell has happened since 1/20/01 when the Bush nightmare began...

Gore should have coasted to a 425 electoral vote win in 2000 after the great shape of the country Bill Clinton left him....But red state heathens didn't want to vote for Gore because of the Lewinsky scandal.....(Bill Maher had a great line once where he said (paraphrasing) "people acted like Gore was holding Monica by the hair & swaying her back & forth").....

The fact that the 2008 election will be close is a disgrace...ANY Democrat should be able to win a 1964 Johnson landslide type victory after what the fucking Republicans have done to this country the last 8 years!....

Those red staters stick with the Republican no matter what & in many instances they'll vote against their own self-interests to support the Re-thug.....For some reason, they don't hold the Republicans accountable for anything...

6. Were you here in 2000 and 2004?
Do you remember the republicans? If Obama can't handle the mild attacks coming from Hillary, how is he going to do with the republican slime and swiftboat machine. Imagine what they can do with Hussein, a father who was muslim, cocaine, etc. How many slip of the tongue that will make obama, osama. You think they won't use race as an issue? You have to remember who we are running against. These are people without a soul that will stop at nothing. They have already trashed McCain's Viet Nam background. If they can do this to one of their own...I shudder to think what they can do to Obama.

4. yes, they're terrified ...
he's going to continue to stumble, have as his only wins IA and SC, ultimately flounder on Super Tuesday and not make it to the General where they can easily wipe the floor with him in the debates and in the Electoral Vote.

It's Hillary they fear and for good reason. After millions of dollars, 16 years, countless investigations and the Impeachment of her husband, she STILL succeeded as a popular Senator and has a strong shot at the Presidency!!! She's like the evil version of the Energizer Bunny to them and she knows how to fight their dirty tricks.

5. This is the crux for all at this point: "it will be hard to cut his legs out from under him without

appearing racist." We saw what happened a few weeks ago. Obama came out late- after several days and made a statement that what Sen. Clinton said was not racial--but in those few days the stew become toxic.
