The primaries have become a huge disappointment. I have spent
the last 7 years not believing, and not believing in, my government. If they told me it was true, I knew it was false. If they told me the sky was blue, I looked out the window to make sure. I've had to listen to distortions, half-truths and outright lies. I've watched good, honest people who took on the administration be smeared unmercilessly and their livelihoods destroyed. I've been exposed to an administration that has acted smug, condescending and entitled. I've been pushed to the point of yelling obscenities at my television, in front of my mother!

I'm seeing the same things evolving in the Democratic primaries.

I was hoping that this election would mark a difference in how I felt about my government. I'm not so sure that this will be the outcome.

1. I feel your pain.
Not only have the Dem politicians gone along with the status quo many Dem voters are ignorant to the fact that the MSM and *co have picked our candidate for 2008. I have been sickened by both sides. Personally I have had to face the facts that while I will continue to speak out, write, call and demonstrate nothing is going to change. We have been sold down the river on a boat full of ignorant people. I am making plans in my own life to try and deal with this. Smaller footprint, plant the fruit trees, beef up the garden and donate locally to people in need. It is becoming more obvious to me that I can't save the world from the destruction this evil empire will foist upon it. Peace, Kim

2. This is the first time in my life that I'm not looking forward to voting. I've
actually contemplated sitting this one out. I'd like to figure out how we got to this point and do something to fix it, but I'm starting to believe it is too broken to be fixed.

5. We can't give up.
I have stopped listening to the candidate bashing on a daily basis. Let them hash it out and before the s-election I will decide which button to push. Take care and remember....have some fun every day even if it is just watching the sunset or admiring the limbs of a bare tree. We can't let them steal another eight years of our lives. Peace, Kim

3. It is utterly revolting
The media has acted more transparently than ever to select the "viable" democratic candidate. They worked hard to knock of Kucinich and Gravel and now they are attempted to marginalize John Edwards as well. How the hell do we let them do this?

6. I don't think we let them do it to us. I think the rest of America lets them.
I hate to admit it, but I believe that the vast majority of this country is too lazy and too self-involved to take the time to really think about who to vote for. They want everything spoonfed to them and the media is the perfect utensil.

7. The way the other Dems excluded Kucinich was sickening.
If they were of high moral character they would have stood together and let everyone have a chance to speak. This would show that they have respect for the election process and value the laws of our country. They are all so afraid of Kucinich that he could not be permitted to be heard. Call me hopeless or pathetic but if he can stay in the race while the others beat each other to a pulp he still could have a chance. The bottom line is when we stand and permit one to be excluded we can not be surprised when it happens again. Peace, Kim

13. I want to believe too.
I really want Kucinich to make it farther in the campaign. I am a big fan of his, but I also don't wanna let Hill-bama DLC the democratic party again.

8. Guess it's working. I'll vote. It's an extremely strong belief I have...that
it is a privilege I refuse to give up...especially with Bushco working hard to take away all my other rights. But I hate the thought of another 4 years of this garbage.

11. Pdxmom, try and keep in mind that we have had two previous elections...
where the candidate was chosen in the first two primaries. The primary season was not so long. This time we have had pre-primary activity for two long years. That really is unfair to the candidates.

This time however, we have several primarys over with and still no clear candidate in either camp. More Americans will have the chance to participate this time around in the selection of the next president. All the candidates are now tired, are frustrated by the lengthy campaign, and have run out of whatever new ideas they might have had back at the start. There is little left except to start slamming each other at this point.

We at least have three fairly strong candidates. Compare that to our opposition who have a bonified collection of has beens and clowns. Any of our people will do a good job.

If you think this campaign is bad, you need to read some Mark Twain or H.L. Mencken to get some perspective back...and have a chuckle or two to relieve your frustrations.

12. Thanks for some perspective. I needed that. I realize that whatever
we field in the GE will be head and shoulders above the Repugs. The campaigns just need to get back on track and let us hear the issues.

10. No - the purpose of negative campaigning is to win.
Just as at DU, where the negative threads get enormous reactions, negative campaigning tends to be far more memorable to voters, IMO.

14. Politics is politics... Democrats are not saints.
I'm sorry that this is new to you... but if you happened to see Olbermann last night, they actually talked about it... things were as bad if not worse even as recently as the 70's, when Carter and Kennedy were vying for the nomination.
