Rachael Madow, 'the Obama smear is working'
The rumors and robocalls are working.

"there are plenty of otherwise sane Americans that right now believe Obama is a muslim"

Our nominee is being chosen based on a lie, how very American.

2. I had to enlighten my own sister last night. She said Obama made her
"nervous" because he was a Muslim. I was shocked! She's no dummy. I asked her where she had heard that, and she indicated she heard it on the radio. She lives in the DC area. I informed her of the truth and she was really upset that she had believed the lies and that they were being broadcast like that. I asked her to please be sure to spread the word that these were all lies.

4. I heard the same lie this weekend from my MIL..
Obama has "dangerous ties" to Muslims...:eyes: This woman doesn't pick up a newspaper, she gets all of her "news" from MSM teevee and rumors that people give her.

9. Was she at all embarrased at having a bias vs. a religious affiliation?
I mean, if I had said, "Well, I'm nervous about Kennedy because he's Catholic," what would that say about me?

10. Yes, she was embarrased by it, and said so, but also said she couldn't
help the way she felt. She lost an in-law at the Pentagon. And remember, there were a lot of people who did feel nervous about Kennedy's religion.

Oh, I agree completely. I let her have it, in a sisterly sort of way. The
truth is in the fact that the ads are working. There seem to be quite a few people out there who "can't help it". And it proves that, while the government doesn't have a religious test for who can run for office, the populace sure as hell does.

14. Sorry, but I need to rant for a second: Let's say my uncle is carjacked by an African-American.
Let's say he gets the crap kicked out of him, and is generally traumatized. Then let's say that because if that incident, I don't trust black people.

What does that make me?

18. Rant away. I understand what you're saying completely. Unfortunately
that is the way many people view the world. No different from those that generalize over any population. Because there are crappy cops, all cops suck. Because there are slimy attorneys, all attorneys suck. I don't know if it's human nature or close-mindedness or both, but unfortunately, we see it all the time.

21. You may be right that humans have an innate fear of the "other."
But to think that this is so common, it just makes my head explode. I've had more than enough of f'ing bigots in my life, so I suppose I shouldn't be shocked to hear stories about people who wouldn't vote for a Muslim.

26. As much as I can't stand Mitt Romney, I had that exploding head
syndrome regarding his Mormonism. It shouldn't matter. But it surely does. He should never have felt the need to address that issue and the media shouldn't have felt that that was newsworthy. The bias and bigotry are all around us. The groups it affects shift somewhat, but it is and will always be there.

19. My old boss hates blacks
I asked him why...he said one time he was walking down the isle of a bus to his seat, and a black guy tripped him...he has hated blacks ever since.

Does that make sense ? ..of course not.

the effect they're having on Obama? They slander a whole race of people who don't deserve it. I think it's sick and sad.

32. exactly and it comes from Obama supporters who consider
being called a Muslim a racial slur. when you freak out everytime it is alluded to that Obama is a Muslim you imply being a Muslim is BAD. you are all using the RW frame that all muslims are terrorists and BAD.

do if Clinton was called a lesbian, or shrill, or any number of smears. And you'd also be right.

16. It's Wrong On So Many Levels
It's the fear factor coming into play again. It's horrible to watch smearing or swiftboating come into play again. It's wrong no matter who is doing it. Disagree with him on policies but don't try to assassinate his character. I don't know about anyone else but I started seeing the smear emails months ago. All of the emails have been debunked and I send people the information.

I, a known Hillary suupporter, told her he was not.

And that was many months ago. Imagine the e-mails that have been circulated since then.

30. The most disturbing thing is...
that this has any effect on Democrats. Personally, I wouldn't care in the least if Obama was muslim or if Hillary was a Wiccan and Edwards an atheist. Democrats are suppose to be for separation of church and state...and freedom of religion.

If this can have an effect on California democrats, the most liberal, than what will it do in the general. Personally...I'd rather know that now.
